ALIEN Day Announcements: Ripley Fans, Be Ready for April 26th!

ALIEN Day

It’s official: ALIEN Day has been announced, and it’s taking place Tuesday, April 26th! There are some really awesome things happening for it, and I for one am very excited!

Probably the most exciting news (at least for me) is that Reebok is releasing an exact replica of Ellen Ripley’s ALIEN High-Top Stompers. Along with those, they’re also going to offer the mid-top version worn by Android Bishop, and these will both be available on ALIEN Day. I can’t wait to hear more about them, because I’m pretty sure I need a pair…ALIEN Day Ellen Ripley Alien Stomper Reebok

However, if you live in or near one of the 20+ cities where ALIEN and ALIENS are being showcased as a double feature on ALIEN Day, count yourselves lucky! So far those locations include Austin, New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and participating Alamo venues, and I’m sure we’ll hear about additional cities soon!

Also, for all you Twitter users out there, definitely keep an eye on the hashtag #AlienDay426 (a nod to planet LV-426 from the films). Please note that you do have to pre-register your Twitter handle at ALIEN Anthology, but I’d say it’s worth going that extra step, because there will be an ongoing trivia challenge that includes the chance to win prizes every 42.6 minutes – and those prizes will likely include some of the awesome new merchandise being released on ALIEN day.

This merchandise includes an ALIENS Queen & Power Loader and Ripley figure set from Funko, NECA’s first ever Lieutenant Vasquez and Newt figures, and exclusive covers of Dark Horse Comics’ ongoing ALIENS comic book series (as well as a deluxe 30th anniversary hardcover version of the original ALIENS series from 1896!).

ALIEN Day Ellen Ripley Alien StomperAnother Geekiary favorite, Loot Crate, is launching a limited-edition ALIENS 30th Anniversary crate on April 26th. I love their Level Up and Loot Pets offerings, so obviously I’m excited to see what’s included in this special crate.

All of that is just a small portion of the list of companies partnering with ALIEN Day, and while I’m practically drooling over those sneakers, I’m also excited to see one of the most amazing female characters ever featured in a lot of other awesome merchandise, including a new 1/6th figure from Hot Toys and a Kenner toy-inspired Ellen Ripley figure (also from NECA).

Jeffrey Godsick, President of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, explained why they decided to schedule ALIEN Day: “The ALIEN franchise holds a special place not only within the universe of Fox but with movie enthusiasts across the galaxy…We noticed that fans of the ALIEN films were starting to rally around the calendar date of April 26th – given the connection to the planet LV-426. Quite simply, it gave us the idea to do something special on this day; to officially mark the occasion alongside fans and to build excitement online, in stores, and once again, in theaters.”

Personally, I think Godsick’s words are uplifting. They noticed that fans were rallying around this date, and they acted on that – which is great marketing, sure, but it also shows that yes, sometimes members of the entertainment industry pursue something mostly because the fans are endorsing it. And as a fan, I’m excited for ALIEN Day. How about you? And how do you feel about the upcoming movie ALIEN: COVENANT, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Michael Fassbender, which will be released in August 2017? Let us know in the comments!
