Get ready for something entirely new: Beach City Con will be a Steven Universe themed convention, to be held October 13th-17th 2017, in Virginia Beach, VA.

The first convention of its kind to be centered solely around the Cartoon Network show, Beach City Con will be an intimate event for people to share in their love for the Crystal Gems and their human friends. The convention will feature exciting programming suitable for fans of all ages, including discussion panels, sing-a-longs, an artists’ alley, cosplay competitions, and much more. The organizers of Beach City Con are dedicated to fostering an inclusive, friendly atmosphere where everyone is welcome. The convention will be held right on the water at the Virgina Beach Resort Hotel, which has previous experience in hosting conventions.

Ice & Fire Con was established in 2012 and has seen four successful years of fan-run, non-profit conventions. Saga Event Planning also organizes themed parties and pub crawls. Their staff are experienced event organisers and financial planners, as well as huge Steven Universe fans, who are excited to provide the best experience they can. If support and interest proves to be strong enough, they also hope to expand the con to the UK as well, for European fans who may have trouble visiting the USA.

If you’re interested in the event, be sure to check out their official website for further information. You can also follow either the con’s official Facebook or Twitter pages to receive the latest updates. If you would like to help support Beach City Con, a Kickstarter will be launching later this summer to help generate the funds to cover the event. Backers will be able to get everything from a place on the official mailing list to priority ticket booking to advance tickets and lodging for all three days. Together, we can Keep Beach City Con Weird!

Please note that Beach City Con is a Steven Universe-themed, fan-based organization operated by Steven Universe fans. Beach City Con is not sponsored by Cartoon Network. 1. WHY IS IT NOT IN SUMMER?!! I WOULD BE GOING IF I DIDN’T LIVE IN UTAH CAUSE OF MY PARENTS DIVORCE VIRGINIA IS MY HOME STATE BUT I DONT LIVE THERE ANYMORE

  2. I SAW THIS AND GOT SO HYPED BUT REALIZED ITS HALF WAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND NEXT YEAR. STILL HYPED THO

  3. In a few years this should happen in Ramona California were nice over here trust me

  4. Heh I’m very lucky I live 4 hours away and live near where the said cartoon supposedly takes place

    1. I wouldn’t think so 🙂 As one of the organizers of Beach City Con, I founded and continue to organize a successful single-fandom con for A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones – next year will actually be our fifth year. We are aiming for what we know we can handle and as a frequent convention-goer myself, I’ve seen the vibrant and ever-increasing Steven Universe fandom presence at ColossalCon, SDCC, Dragon Con, Con Nooga, and more for over a year now. We think the time is ripe for an SU-themed convention and with our past experience we’re pretty darn sure we can put together an awesome finished product 🙂

  5. “Inclusive and Friendly”? I’m not entirely sure SU fans know what that means.

    1. Really? I’ve honestly experienced the opposite at conventions 🙂 Every time I’ve run into SU cosplayers (or even just fans wearing the Steven t-shirt) at conventions they’ve been awesome 🙂 I know at Dragon Con last year there was someone dressed as Steven walking around with a ukelele singing some of the SU songs and people were joining in and stuff and it was awesome 🙂

      1. This is a recipe for destruction. Despite what you have seen at other conventions, that was a small handful of fans probably at a photoshoot. If you’ve been on tumblr, which has probably the LARGEST following of Steven Universe fans, all they do is whine about ships. What if someone at that convention willingly goes for a couple costume that is the ship “Pewey”? Harassment would ensue. The SU fandom has also been known to harass artists until they become suicidal such as Zamii. Or might we relate back to the most recent person who was harassed for shipping Pewey? I think a single fandom con is just bad news, especially when the majority of the fandom is problematic.

Be prepared to be escorting many problematic fans out of the convention, Tara Lynne.

    1. We were thinking at least two ballpits. We considered a gem pit but that might be dangerous. Sharp edges and all that 😉
