Aquaman Continues Being King of the Box Office in Its Second Week!

Aquaman second weekend box office 2018

Warner Bros. Aquaman was able to keep its crown at the box office during the final weekend of 2018. Mary Poppins, Bumblebee, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse also performed well.

Due to this weekend’s numbers ($51.55 million), the domestic cume of Aquaman is now over $188 million. The worldwide gross, which has surpassed the Justice League live-action film (big surprise there. Ha!), is almost near the $750 million mark. Of course, fans are excited to see the Jason Momoa movie reach the $1 billion mark.

Let’s see if it is able to achieve such a milestone as 2019 rolls in. Made on a reported production budget of $200 million, the James Wan-directed film is a resounding success for the DCEU and only saw a 23.5% drop during the second weekend. It will be interesting to see if we will get a sequel or how the DCEU will be affected by Aquaman.

Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns found some audience love as it saw a 19% improvement during its second week of release. The Emily Blunt-led movie is nearing the $100 million domestic mark. The international gross is almost $75 million.

The surprisingly enjoyable Bumblebee only saw a 5% drop and raked in approximately $20.5 million. The domestic total is around $67 million. It has made an estimated $90 million overseas. The latest Transformers entry will open in China on January 4, 2019, which should give it a good boost.

Also, I’m very happy to see more people deciding to watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It is an incredible film, and it has been disappointing to see certain people dismiss the project because of it being an animated venture. The Miles Morales flick saw an 11.2% bump and made an estimated $18.3 million during its third week of release. Domestically it has grossed a bit more than $103 million. The worldwide gross is approximately $214 million.

Coming to other offerings, Clint Eastwood’s The Mule improved by 24%, which helped its domestic gross become more than $60 million.

Christian Bale’s Oscar hopeful Vice played in 2,442 locations to gather an estimated $7.79 million. The film has become Annapurna’s highest grossing domestic release of all-time after only six days of release with $17.7 million thus far.

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly’s Holmes & Watson has been declared a flop and made an estimated $7.3 million from 2,776 locations during the weekend. The six-day total is near $20 million.
