“The Avengers” Is the First of Many Games Developed by Marvel and Square Enix Partnership!

The Avengers Marvel Entertainment Square Enix game

Fans of Marvel video games can look forward to new content. Marvel Entertainment has partnered up with Square Enix for a new multi-year, multi-game licensing agreement. First up is The Avengers project!

The agreement initiates the publishing and development of original Marvel games. The Avengers project will come first. While I’m not a fan of this fictional team, I’m looking forward to the upcoming game because of the talent. The project has been crafted by Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider ); Eidos-Montréal, of Deus Ex fame, will be collaborating.

It will include a variety of characters, iconic moments, and environments from the famous Marvel franchise. According to the press release, the project will “introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018.”

It does sound like that The Avengers will be an MMO. However, I have my fingers crossed for something different. Even a 2D platform will do! I also hope that a new X-Men game is included in the partnership. It has been too long since I’ve played as a mutant. I wouldn’t mind a Young Avengers game either. Introduce U.S.Avengers, too! There are so many teams to make games about.

Check out The Avengers project world premiere teaser trailer below.

The Avengers project is a perfect example of how Marvel is making games a key part of the landscape for Marvel storytelling, alongside comics, television, and film,” said Jay Ong, Senior VP, Games & Innovation, Marvel Entertainment.

This collaboration of passion and talent will craft epic, imaginative experiences allowing gamers to live out their Super Hero dreams like never before,” said Phil Rogers, CEO, Square Enix Americas and Europe.

What do you think of the new partnership? Any thoughts about the teaser trailer? Will we see a game based on the X-Men? Let us know!
