“BOOR” Offers Fun Puzzle-Solving Levels – Game Review

BOOR, by Dazlog Studio and BadLand Games, is a fun little simplistic 2D platformer that offers a few hours of puzzle-solving.

BadLand Games has been offering a lot of enjoyable indie titles and BOOR is no different. Created by Dazlog Studio and released on 14th February, the indie platformer follows a little girl as she solves puzzles in a colony called Eden. The game’s title also happens to be the name of a malfunctioning A.I. that has taken over humanity. It’s your job to uncover Eden’s mysteries while solving puzzles and beating killer robots.

The gameplay is easy to learn. The little girl can move around, jump, and create a clone. Utilizing her clone plays a significant part in solving puzzles and beating enemies. Keep in mind that the clone only exists for a limited time. There are orbs you can collect to extend the clone’s existence for a few seconds, though.

BOOR urges players to use the robots against each other. The little girl can’t fight, but by using her clone you can make robots shoot one another or hurt themselves. The whole thing adds to the fun of the game. The same goes for boss battles. You’ll need to trick bosses of your presence and use their own power against them.

The unfortunate thing is that the little girl dies with a single hit. So, boss battles can get a bit tedious. However, if you’re able to figure out a boss’s attack pattern, you’ll be okay.

The graphics are simple. There isn’t too much detail going on, but the game’s still nice to look at. While the OST is soothing, it can get a bit repetitive after a few levels if you play continuously.

My only gripe with BOOR is how a few questions were left unanswered. I don’t know how the girl is able to create a clone. I also don’t know how she was able to survive the crash. It could be that the developer has a sequel in the works to provide answers. Let’s see.

Depending on how skilled you are at solving puzzles, you can complete BOOR in less than five hours. There isn’t much replay value but with the current 20% off discount on the $4.99, it makes for a good purchase.
