Damien Cancelled After One Season

A&E’s follow-up to The Omen has met a bitter end. Damien, starring Bradley James, was cancelled after a season of low ratings and less than stellar reviews.

This show was a little confusing tone-wise but still somewhat enjoyable, mostly due to the performance by the lovely Bradley James. We sure are going to miss seeing him on our screens every week, but hopefully he finds a home somewhere else (maybe Lowell comes back from the dead on iZombie, please TV gods make it happen).

The series followed the mysterious child, Damien Thorn, who is now all grown up and has completely forgotten his satanic past. Basically it was all about Damien embracing his role as the anti-christ. Ultimately it didn’t really work, which is probably why people didn’t tune in and it ended up getting cancelled.

The cancellation was announced via Twitter by creator Glen Mazzara who said: “This hurts to say but #Damien will not be getting a second season. Thank you from all of us to our amazing fans. The #Damien fandom has been the absolute best. So sorry we won’t be able to continue our story for you.”

Mazzara then thanked the cast — which included Megalyn Echikunwoke, Omid Abtahi, David Meunier, Barbara Hershey, and of course Bradley James — before finally saying: “I really loved making #Damien We all did. We just never got the numbers there. Gave is our best shot… Most of all, thank you to the greatest fandom in the world. You kept us going. So loving and supportive. Cannot thank you enough.”

It’s sad but not the worst loss we’ve had this year. There’s no point dwelling, unless you want to launch a campaign to save the show, or we could all sit around and talk about which show we’d most like to see Bradley James turn up on now that he’s a free agent.
