Planning to Binge Watch or Gift Some DC Comics Super Hero Shows? Here Are Some Recommendations!

Geekiary Gift Guide Supergirl DC Comics

It is the month of holidays and what’s better than cozying up and binge watching some amazing DC Comics superhero TV shows? With The CW giving the world an enjoyable “Invasion” mega crossover, use the holidays to catch up with shows before the next event starts!

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is conquering the box office, DC Comics is making a universe of its own on our TV screens. So if you’re a fan of DC Comics superheroes, here are some shows that you can binge watch before all of them return with new episodes next year. They also make for good last-minute gifts if you know someone who is a fan.

Note: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the BD/DVD I am featuring in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

Supergirl: The Complete First Season

We love Supergirl on this website. The Blu-ray/DVD release is even included in Tara’s Holiday Gift Guide. Not only is it a show that cements Superman’s cousin as a legit superhero, it gives people, especially young girls, someone to look up to. Supergirl: The Complete First Season consists of all 20 episodes showing Kara trying to control her powers, living her life, and defeating bad guys. I have to admit that the first season did have a few slow moments. But it is a good watch for anyone who started watching Supergirl during season two and wants to know what it was like before it moved to The CW.

The bonus features include:

  • Deleted Scenes
  • Comic Con Panel 2015
  • The Man from Mars featurette
  • A World Left Behind: Krypton
  • Gag Reel

Supergirl: The Complete First Season is available on DVD ($49.99 SRP) and Blu-ray including Digital HD ($54.97 SRP).

Arrow: The Complete Fourth Season

The fourth season of Arrow brought a lot of characters back from the dead. It also had a The Flash crossover and brought Constantine and Vixen into the mix. One of the best things about watching a show on Blu-ray or DVD is that you can skip through scenes that you don’t care about and yes, I did skip a few. Arrow is known to have a few pacing problems so you can’t really blame me. However, I did enjoy the overall plot of Season 4.

The bonus features include:

  • Deleted Scenes
  • Comic Con Panel 2015
  • A Hawks Featurette
  • Vandal Savage Featurette
  • Damien Darhk Featurette
  • Gag Reel

Arrow: The Complete Fourth Season is available on DVD ($49.99 SRP) and Blu-ray including Digital HD ($54.97 SRP). If you want to start collecting all DC Comics TV shows or know someone who might be interested in doing so, then this would make a very good gift.

The Flash: The Complete Second Season

While Arrow had a darker tone, The Flash offered a superhero story to viewers with a more humorous take. Both shows have action, suspense, and mystery, but The Flash presents it with a sense of joy through lead actor Grant Gustin. Also, the show has super powered beings and it is very fun to see all the special effects during fights.

The bonus features include:

  • Deleted Scenes
  • Play Fest Panel 2015
  • Comic Panel 2015
  • Behind the Scenes VFX on Select Episodes
  • The Many Faces of Zoom Featurette
  • Chasing Flash: The Journey of Kevin Smith
  • Hawkman and Hawkgirl Featurette
  • Gag Reel

The Flash: The Complete Second Season is available on DVD ($49.99 SRP) and Blu-ray including Digital HD ($54.97 SRP). There are nearly four hours of extra content that you can enjoy!

DC's Legends of Tomorrow DC Comics

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete First Season

The premise of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is the most comic-booky of all The CW shows. It has a team of superheroes and super villains traveling through time to protect the world. If you’re into team dynamics and how time travel works then this show is for you. It is also fun to see the team trying to blend into the time period their missions lead them to. Think of this show as Doctor Who but with superheroes. Time travel also allows the show to talk about various social topics relating to racism, sexism, being discriminated due to sexuality, etc.

The bonus features include:

  • Deleted Scenes
  • A Fantastic Voyage: Touring the Waverider Set
  • History in the making
  • Jonah Hex: Hex Marks the Spot
  • Comic-Con Panel 2015
  • Gag Reel

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete First Season is available on DVD ($39.99 SRP) and Blu-ray including Digital HD ($44.98 SRP).

Gotham: The Complete Second Season

I don’t know about you all but I enjoyed the second season of Gotham. It didn’t have a great major villain but introduced Jerome to us all and laid the groundwork for Nygmobblepot. Go ahead and read my complete recommendation about the show’s Blu-ray/DVD release and bonus features it comes with.

Gotham: The Complete Second Season is available on DVD ($49.99 SRP) and Blu-ray including Digital HD ($54.97 SRP).

DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year

The DC Super Hero Girls franchise ended up being far better than expected. It is a show meant for kids, specifically for selling toys to little girls, but the overall content did justice to iconic characters. Make sure to read my DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year recommendation to know what makes this animated film so fun to watch.

DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year is available on DVD (SRP $19.98).

Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders

If you ask me, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders has to be one of the best Batman animated films yet. Inspired by the 60’s TV show, the film brings back most of the original cast for a cheesy yet enjoyable story. Also, don’t forget to read my full review.

Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders is available now on Blu-ray Combo Pack including Digital HD ($24.98 SRP) and DVD ($19.98 SRP).

So, there you have it. This holiday season, there are numerous Blu-ray and DVDs you can buy to get your fix of DC Comics TV shows and films. They also make very good last-minute holiday gifts for people in your life who enjoy such content.

You can easily find all of these TV shows and animated films at far cheaper prices than mentioned in this post.

Do you own any of them? Planning to binge watch this month? Already gifted them to someone? Let us know!
