I Found Myself Enjoying The ‘Once Upon A Deadpool’ Trailer! Are You Ready For A PG-13 Cut Of Deadpool 2?

Once Upon A Deadpool 2 December release Fred Savage

Deadpool 2 is getting a PG-13 cut and now we have a trailer to kind of get an idea about what to expect from Once Upon A Deadpool when it hits theaters on December 12, 2018. I’m looking forward to some new scenes. Also, good to know Negasonic and Yukio’s queer relationship will remain intact.

There are different ways you can think about Once Upon A Deadpool. You can be of the opinion it is Fox’s way to make more money from the sequel before things are handed off to Disney. Some might think it is a test conducted by Ryan Reynolds to show Disney his Deadpool franchise can work well with the family-friendly MCU. It could also be seen as a warning by some fans because if the PG-13 cut receives a warm welcome, we might not get anymore R-rated Deadpool films. However, I don’t think Disney will risk alienating fans by announcing the House of Mouse won’t make any more R-rated Deadpool movies.

Whatever the future might hold, I found myself enjoying the Once Upon A Deadpool trailer!

The trailer features Wade with a kidnapped Fred Savage. According to 20th Century Fox, Savage’s addition is “an homage to Savage’s starring role in the 1987 bedtime-story classic The Princess Bride.”

Apparently, there was always an intent to make a PG-13 rated version to appeal to a larger audience. “Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006,” Reynolds told Deadline. “I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining.”

As for the charity aspect of the release, 20th Century Fox will be donating $1 from each ticket sold to “Fudge Cancer.” According to 20th Century Fox, the founders of the charity (the real name being Fuck Cancer) “graciously changed their name to be more PG-13 friendly for the 12 days of Once Upon A Deadpool’s release.”

Deadpool 2 was released on May 18, 2018. It enjoyed a worldwide gross of approximately $734.2 million against a production budget of $110 million.

Once Upon a Deadpool will hit theaters on December 12th and will run till the 24th.
