I love the fast pace in which the plot seems to be moving in the second season of Extant. The main characters know what’s going on and so does the audience, which is a good thing in my book. The Extant reboot has done the show a huge favor and I can’t wait to see how things play out after the events in ‘Empathy for the Devil’.

The first thing I’m going to talk about is how interesting Lucy is as a character. It has only been two episodes since Kiersey Clemons has been part of the show and I’m already in love with her character. She’s a Humanich that has been designed to be a soldier but she’s also acts like a rebellious teenager. Her presence onscreen is chilling as well as endearing at the same time. I liked her interactions with Ethan (Pierce Gagnon). It would’ve been amazing to see their brother/sister dynamic if the world didn’t have an alien threat to deal with. I’m looking forward to seeing Lucy meet Molly (Halle Berry) because she was modeled after her.

Julie keeps being a character who has a lot of issues and Grace Gummer is doing an awesome job in the role. It is clear that Julie is dealing with a lot of inner conflicts. I liked seeing her feel insecure when Lucy started to grow close to Charlie (Tyler Hilton). The fear of losing Charlie to Lucy urged Julie to kiss him and that’s why I’m not sure if she actually loves him yet or not. Ethan also started to remember Molly and I just know he’ll be angry at Julie for trying to erase his memories.

While Molly finally got to meet her grownup son, seeing the two about to kiss felt weird to me. I don’t know why the writers decided to put such a scene in the episode. Didn’t the two have some sort of a connection that allowed them to know they were related?

Halle Berry was amazing near the end of the episode when her son came to meet her. She showed guilt, surprise, anger and fear in a single scene before falling unconscious. Halle always shines in scenes that require her to cry or be sad, and she kicked it out the park as usual this week too. I can’t understand why Molly feels sympathy for her son, Ahdu. Why does she love a parasite that would’ve killed her if it hadn’t been extracted from her body? I guess a mother’s love doesn’t know any boundaries.

JD Richter (Jeffery Dean Morgan) is clearly the guy who’s gotten himself into more than a he can chew. I was curious to see how the writers would have him involved in the plot after the government took away his license and Molly didn’t seem to need to his help anymore. Enter Richter’s pregnant teenage daughter! It’s a safe guess that Ahdu is the father of her half-alien baby and I’m looking forward to seeing how JD will help his daughter.
