Fan Artist Friday: Eaten Clover

The end of July is an intense convention period for me.  Hot off the heals of the enormous San Diego Comic-Con I return home to the much smaller, much more intimate Comic Con Honolulu.  While SDCC has me running around to various press rooms or camping out overnight to get into a large industry panel, CCH gives me a chance to connect with local geeks.  At this years convention I focused on finding artists to feature in our ongoing Fan Artist Friday series.  Our first featured artist from Honolulu Comic Con is Eaten Clover’s artist Erin Hamada.

Eaten Clover 1Her Steven Universe pillows are what brought me to her booth, but I quickly learned she had a lot of other incredible work too.  The convention had a very strong Steven Universe presence in general, so her work was definitely aimed at the right audience.

What mediums do you work in?

Erin: I mostly specialize in hand writing. I mostly do a lot of pen, pencil kind. I don’t really do animation.  But for conventions I mostly go for these pillows. I just like them. They sell off better than my prints.

They look really cute. It’s what brought me to your booth. Do you mostly do Steven Universe as well? What other fandoms do you cover?

Erin: For this convention I only did Steven Universe because I hear it’s been back ever since Rebecca Sugar decided to air the rest of her episodes. And I’ve also been doing Pokémon. I mostly just do what is ‘in’ and popular.

Pencil ArtSo, besides popular ones what other fandoms are you into?

Erin: Anything anime really. I’m back into Naruto and Hayaku, I’m also into, I’m ashamed to say this, Dramatical Murder.

Do you sell it online or mostly at just the convention circuits?

Erin: I’m mostly into conventions and I’ve been trying to go online. It’s kind of slow process but we will see.

Thanks for the chat Erin!  I look forward to seeing you at future conventions and seeing your new work.  And goodness I might not be able to resist that Peridot pillow next time.  Seriously adorable.
