Geekiary News Briefs! Star Wars’ Forces of Destiny, Jude Law as Dumbledore, and More!

Forces of Destiny Star Wars Disney Lucas Films

Welcome to today’s Geekiary Briefs! We’ll be talking about Jude Law being cast as Dumbledore, Star Wars’ female-led Forces of Destiny, Atomic Blonde, and more!

Fox has cast Josh Brolin as Cable for Deadpool 2. The actor also plays Thanos in MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Ryan Reynolds made a joke about playing two characters in the same universe. Cable is a time traveling mutant so it’s safe to assume the Deadpool sequel might mess up the X-Men live-action timeline in a hilarious manner.

Talking about casting, Jude Law has joined the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them live-action series as Albus Dumbledore. I’m okay with Jude Law joining the franchise and I look forward to seeing Albus during a different time in his life. Now, if only they can recast Johnny Depp as Grindelwald or use Polyjuice potion to make him look like Colin Firth again. (via Variety)

Dolph Lundgren has been cast as King Nereus of Xebel in Aquaman. His character is being described as someone who “claims Mera as his own and wants to kill Aquaman.” The film is set for a 21 December 2018 release date. (via CBR)

Chris Pratt will be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 21 April 2017. Since his role in Parks and Recreation and how well his career has done, he’s the lead of two successful franchises. It makes sense.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is all set to cross the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. Personally, I didn’t enjoy the film considering it was a retelling and Emma Watson as Belle just didn’t do it for me. But congratulations to Disney on making more money. Now, let’s hope they don’t try to create a sequel or a prequel. (via CBR)

The international trailer for Charlize Theron’s Atomic Blonde is everything. There’s a lot of action, a queer female lead, and a remix of Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams” which is also one of my favorite songs. The upcoming film is an adaptation of The Coldest City, a graphic novel by Anthony Johnston and Sam Hart. It’s set for a 28 July 2017 release in the US.

Fans of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow can binge-watch the show on Netflix. Caity Lotz, who plays White Canary on the show, made the announcement via Facebook. Legends of Tomorrow has already been renewed for a third season so now’s a good time to catch up.

The Star Wars franchise is gearing up for a female-led initiative. Forces of Destiny will focus on Leia Organa, Padme Amidala, Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, Rey and Jyn Erso. A total of 16 shorts (canon) will be released on YouTube. The initiative also includes toys, apparel, and books. Daisy Ridley, Felicity Jones, Lupita Nyong’o, along with other Star Wars talent will be part of Forces of Destiny.

After Ardian Syaf’s controversial Islamic and political messages in X-Men Gold Issue 1 Marvel has terminated its contract with the independent artist. X-Men Gold Issue 1 will undergo reprints taking out the messages and yes, the original debut issue can now be considered a collector’s item. So, you’re kind of lucky if you were able to buy a copy.
