FX Orders First Season of ‘Legion’ to Be Aired Early Next Year

X Men Legion Title

Legion, the live-action TV series focusing on the mutant named David Haller, will air on FX early next year.

While we don’t have much information regarding another X-Men inspired TV show titled Hellfire, fans will get to see Legion soon enough. The titular character is being played by Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Beauty and the Beast). Legion, or David Haller, is also Professor Xavier’s son. It’ll be interesting to see just how deep the writers will go into his parentage once the show airs.

FX has ordered eight episodes for the first season, which will begin production within the next few months in Vancouver. The cast also stars Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), who plays a character named Lenny. Her character has been described as someone who is trying to turn her life around even though she is struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. She is also David’s friend. The rest of the cast includes Rachel Keller (Fargo), Jeremie Harris, Jean Smart, Amber Midthunder, Bill Irwin, and Katie Aselton.

While the extent of show’s connection to the X-Men film franchise is uncertain at this point, some familiar names such as Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner, and Simon Kinberg will serve as executive producers on the project along with Jeph Loeb, John Cameron, and Jim Chory. Legion is also the first series to be a partnership between Fox and Marvel TV.

“Marvel Television is thrilled to not only have our first partnership with FX go to series, but working with the enormously talented Noah Hawley makes it even better,” said Executive Producer/Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb. “From the first time we heard Noah’s vision to his exceptional script and cast through the extraordinary filming of the pilot, we knew the series would be incredible.” (via IGN)

With the latest X-Men film installment failing to impress I have my fingers crossed that the upcoming TV-adaptations will be able to provide fans with something fresh.
