The Golden Globes 2019 Award Ceremony has finished and we have this year’s list of winners. Will Oscars 2019 have the same results? We will have to wait and see. Until then, tell us what you thought of the winners!

Let’s begin with the films first.

Best Motion Picture – Drama

  • Bohemian Rhapsody
  • Black Panther
  • BlacKkKlansman
  • If Beale Street Could Talk
  • A Star Is Born

Bohemian Rhapsody won and yes, there are certain fans who didn’t like it. Many wanted A Star Is Born to win while others wanted Black Panther. As far as my opinion goes, while I immensely enjoyed Black Panther and you can’t deny what it has done for representation on the big screen, it was not the best movie out there. I mean, when it comes to superhero movies (possibly) winning prestigious awards, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is more deserving of the ‘Best Picture’ mantle.

A Star Is Born was meh in my opinion. So, I’m okay with Bohemian Rhapsody winning the award due it being an enjoyable biopic (regardless of the creative liberties taken and the Bryan Singer drama) about a queer man of color who is an icon around the globe.

Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

  • Green Book
  • Crazy Rich Asians
  • The Favourite
  • Mary Poppins Returns
  • Vice

Green Book is not a movie which should have won this award, in my opinion. It is a problematic film taking itself too seriously and not delivering when it comes to racism and sexual representation. I would have been okay with the award going to The Favourite or even Crazy Rich Asians.

Best Performance in a Motion Picture – Drama

Rami Malek won for Bohemian Rhapsody while Glenn Close won for The Wife. I agree with both choices. Now, I know certain people wanted Lady Gaga to win, but she is young and has a lot of time to prove herself as a big screen actress by playing roles which, frankly, aren’t custom-made for her.

Best Performance in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

Christian Bale won for Vice and I think he has a big chance to win an Academy Award, too. Olivia Colman won for The Favorite which is a huge yes from me!

Best Supporting Performance in a Motion Picture

Mahershala Ali won for Green Book. Regina King won for If Beale Street Could Talk. Fingers crossed the Academy recognizes Regina’s work and at least nominate her!

Best Director

Alfonso Cuarón won for Roma. You should all watch it on Netflix.

Best Original Score

Justin Hurwitz won for First Man for some reason.

Best Original Song

Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt won for “Shallow” featured in A Star Is Born. I was hoping “All the Stars” would win, but oh well.

Best Animated Feature Film

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won! It is such an incredible movie and I hope it is able to enter the “Best Picture” category at the Oscars 2019. Also, we all know the Academy loves Disney/Pixar, but come on, Incredibles 2 was an enjoyable movie, but the best was definitely Spider-Verse. Here’s to hoping the Academy makes the right decision.

Now, for the small screen space at the Golden Globes 2019!

The Americans won the Best Television Series Drama category. No one is denying what Pose has done for representation on TV though.

The Kominsky Method won in the Musical or Comedy category. Has anyone even watched this show?

In a disappointing movie, Richard Madden won in the Best Performance in a Television Series Drama category for his work in Bodyguard. I do think Billy Porter should have won for Pose.

Sandra Oh rightfully won in the category for her role as Eve Polastri in the incredible Killing Eve.

Best Performance in a Miniseries or Television Film were won by Darren Criss for The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and Patricia Arquette for Escape at Dannemora.

Best Supporting Performance in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film were won by the amazing Ben Whishaw for A Very English Scandal and Patricia Clarkson for Sharp Objects.

Best Miniseries or Television Film rightfully went to The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

You can read the entire list of Golden Globes 2019 winners if you want.

I also did a ‘Best’ and ‘Could Have Been Better’ Dressed List if you’re interested.
