Gotham casts its Clayface for Season 2!

Clayface Basil Karlo Gotham

The bad guys in Gotham have increased with the show set to introduce Clayface this season!

According to ComicBook.com, Gotham has cast actor Brian McManamon as Basil Karlo. For those who might not know Basil Karol was the first Clayface. He was created by Bob Kane and made his debut in Detective Comics issue #40 back in June 1940. Basil Karlo was an actor who goes insane when he finds out that a movie he played a villain in was being remade without him being part of the cast. His insane anger leads him to put on the costume of the villain he once played, Clayface, and proceed to murder the cast members in the order they died in the film. However, when he goes to kill the actor who killed Clayface in the film Basil is stopped by Batman. Other characters have also taken on the name Clayface over the years in the comic books but I’m happy that the show is introducing the original.

Gotham is very entertaining because of the numerous villains it has. That’s why I’m looking forward to seeing how the writers handle Basil Karlo. Will he show his shape-shifting abilities from the start or will they develop further down the line as they did in the comics?

With how the writers have tweaked origin stories of other characters I won’t be surprised if they took a similar route with Basil as well. Could he be one of the experiments Huge Strange has been secretly conducting?

With Gotham renewed for a third season and news about another iconic villain joining the show I’m excited to see what the DC inspired TV series has in store for fans. Even though we don’t have Batman yet it is still fun to see James Gordon trying to keep Gotham safe as much as possible, and deal with making tough decisions.

What are your thoughts about Clayface being part of Gotham? Let us know!
