The official title for the next Fantastic Beasts film, along with a first-look at the cast, has been released by Warner Bros. On November 16, 2018, fans can experience Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Personally, I’m not very excited about the new title but at least we got one. Judging by the title, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will probably focus a lot on the Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. Depending on what you think of Johnny Depp (who plays Grindelwald) you’re likely excited or letting out a sigh.

We had a lot of feelings about his role in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

According to Warner Bros., Grindelwald escapes custody and begins recruiting followers for his cause. Dumbledore (played by Jude Law) will be seen enlisting Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to try and stop Grindelwald.

A new ensemble photo of the cast has also been released. Everyone does look very cool in the image. There’s also some diversity in the cast. Along with Newt and Grindelwald, the returning cast includes Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), her sister Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol), Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), and Credence (Ezra Miller). I don’t know how the story will incorporate Jacob, but I’m glad he’s back. MACUSA President Seraphine Picquery (Carmen Ejogo) will also return.

The new characters include Newt’s older brother, Theseus Scamander (Callum Turner), and his fiancée, Leta Lestrange (Zoë Kravitz). The actress sitting next to Ezra’s Credence is played by Claudia Kim. Her character’s name hasn’t been revealed yet. However, she’s known as a “Maledictus,” a person who turns into a beast due to suffering from a blood curse.

Nicolas Flamel, a character first mentioned in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is set to appear in the film too. Jessica Williams, host of Two Dope Queens and former correspondent on The Daily Show, also has a role.

Directed by David Yates, the second film in the Fantastic Beasts franchise is set to take place New York, Paris, and London. Apparently, fans will get to see “love and loyalties tested.” It currently has a November 16, 2018, release date.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, released on November 18, 2016, went on to gross $814 million at the global box office on a $180 million budget. Read our review.

Feel free to share your thoughts about Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald with us. Do you think the title should’ve been the Fantastic Beasts: The Curse of Grindelwald? The word ‘Crimes’ sounds so meh!
