Help Make a Better Future: The 100 Charity Project

the 100 charity project

If you’ve been watching The 100 (and if you haven’t been, why aren’t you?), you’ll know that it’s one of many science fiction narratives that focuses on what will become of the human race in the event that something happens to Earth. On The 100, humanity has retreated to space to avoid what was presumably a nuclear holocaust, thereby escaping all of the environmental disasters that would have followed. It’s a frightening tale that has the possibility of becoming all too real. Well, now the cast and crew of The 100 have decided that life should be about more than just surviving, and have created The 100 Charity Project.

Started by Devon Bostick (Jasper) and Layne Morgan, the idea behind The 100 Charity Project is to use the seemingly unending energy of fandom to fuel charity projects designed to build a better tomorrow.

Fandom involvement can do wonders for charity — from GISHWHES, which raises more than $40,000 annually for Misha Collins’s Random Acts charity, to the Sterek Campaign, which was able to adopt an entire pack of wolves at Wolf Haven International in the name of Teen Wolf. When fandom bands together to do good, they can accomplish amazing things. The 100 Charity Project hopes to spread the good around as much as possible rather than focusing on one specific charity or cause. What they need now is for people to spread the word! From the Tumblr:

Hey everyone, we really really appreciate all of your love, enthusiasm, and support while we’re getting set up. This thing is still in the early stages and we have some things to plan and work out which may take us a few days. In the mean time, your first mission is to spread the word. It’s an easy one. And not just any word, the good word. Spread love, support, your positivity, encouragement, dedication.

I applaud Devon and Layne for attempting to channel fandom energy into something positive. They want to make the world a better place, and as someone who lives on this world, I wish them the best and hope to contribute to the project when I can.
