HRH Princess Mia is Back in Two New Books!

Most of you have probably heard of Mia Thermopolis, even if it’s just from the (awesome) Disney movie starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews. For those of you that don’t know: Princess Mia’s story first began in the pages of a book penned by popular author Meg Cabot. Five years ago, after 16 books, Cabot decided that both her and Princess Mia needs a break. Well, the break is over.

According to The Wall Street Journal, next summer will see the release of two new stories – one aimed at adult readers and one for middle schoolers – featuring everyone’s favorite awkward Princess. 2015 marks the 15th Anniversary of the publication of The Princess Diaries, Volume 1 and I can’t think of better way to celebrate than a royal wedding.

Royal Wedding is the first adult novel in The Princess Diaries series and catches up with Princess Mia in the lead up to her wedding to long time love Michael Moscovitz. Things don’t go to plan when it is revealed that Mia has a younger sister, threatening Mia’s claim to the throne. This connects to the middle grade novel, which is about 12-year-old Olivia Grace, Princess Mia’s long lost sister.

I’m a huge fan of The Princess Diaries series – I was pretty active in the fandom when the books were being published, I might have even written some fan fiction (I’ll never tell you which ones)– so I am incredibly excited to see what Mia Thermopolis has been up to. And although I’m a little above the target demographic I’m kind of intrigued Olivia Grace’s story, especially considering Meg Cabot said that she has a biracial background. I’m always here for a little more diversity in children’s literature.

Read what Meg Cabot has to say about the new books on her website.
