With Selina playing a major role in the current Batman comic book series run, it was only a matter of time before she got herself a new solo series. DC Comics has announced a Catwoman monthly ongoing story by writer and artist Joëlle Jones.

Announced at C2E2, I’m all for Joëlle Jones handling the upcoming Catwoman solo series. She’s also the one who designed Selina’s gorgeous wedding dress. Laura Allred will be handling coloring duties. The first issue will be released on July 4! A Catwoman DC Cover Girls statue by Jones was recently revealed.

Selina Kyle got a solo series as part of the New 52 initiative from DC Comics. It ended in 2016 after 52 issues, which is very impressive for a female-led solo story. Her bisexuality was confirmed in that run.

Now, while I didn’t read every issue in Selina’s solo story, I have been keeping up with the current Batman series from Tom King. The ongoing arc has focused a lot on Bruce and Selina’s relationship (one of my OTPs) and the two are set to tie the knot in Batman Issue 50. I can’t wait to see two iconic characters handle married life.

Here’s the official synopsis for Catwoman Issue 1!

CATWOMAN #1

Written by JOELLE JONES
Art and cover by JOELLE JONES
Color by LAURA ALLRED
Variant cover by STANLEY “ARTGERM” LAU

The wedding night’s barely over, but Catwoman’s back on the streets, this time to expose a copycat who’s pulling heists around Gotham City. As Selina cracks the whip on her former criminal cohorts, she’s attracting unwanted attention from one of Gotham’s most dangerous groups. The mob? Nope. Try the GCPD. And as if the Bat-Bride didn’t have enough problems, there’s an all-new villain determined to make trouble for all nine of Selina’s lives. Don’t miss the start of an all-new monthly series written and illustrated by Eisner Award-nominee Joëlle Jones!

On sale JULY 4 • 32 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T+

While I’m happy for the Batman and Catwoman’s wedding, I hope DC Comics decides to let Batwoman be happy, too. I still remember the lame excuse the company used to stop her marriage.

Are you excited about the upcoming Catwoman series by Joëlle Jones? Does Selina look like Miley Cyrus on the cover to you, too? Let us know.
