Halle Berry’s Kidnap has been awaiting release for quite some time now. The film was supposed to be released back in 2015. Now, it has a 4 August, 2017, release date.

I feel bad for Halle. She found success with The Call in 2013. It was able to collect $68.6 million on a $13 million budget. And it made sense for the Oscar winner to follow it up with Kidnap, another film involving a kidnapped child.

However, Kidnap ended up experiencing a lot of trouble. It was shot back in 2014 and was supposed to be released on 9 October, 2015. But Relativity (the film’s distributor) filed for bankruptcy in summer of that year. The release was then pushed to February of 2016, then May, and then December. Relativity even released a trailer, pushing the film’s release to March 10, 2017. But still, the film didn’t hit theaters.

After all of that, Kidnap was picked up by Aviron Pictures who have announced a release date of 4 August, 2017. The distributor also debuted a new trailer and poster.

I’m not sure how Kidnap will fare at the box office. But I guess everyone involved will at least be happy that it is finally getting a theatrical release. I did a breakdown of the trailer if you want to check that out.

As for Halle’s upcoming projects, she has Kingsman: The Golden Circle coming on 22 September, 2017. It also stars Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, Colin Firth, and Taron Egerton. Halle has signed up for two films in the Kingsman series.

She also has Kings, which is expected to be released during the award season later this year. It is directed by Turkish-French director Deniz Gamze Ergüven, who also directed the Oscar-nominated Mustang. Revolving around the 1992 LA riots, Kings also stars Daniel Craig. It will be distributed by The Orchard.

She will also be starring alongside Michael Douglas in Adrian Lyne’s Silence. There are also rumors about her joining the remake of The Blob.
