Welcome to today’s Geekiary News Briefs! We have some exciting film and TV news to share with you all. We’ll be covering the possible return of Will & Grace and Hit the Floor, a Lion King remake and more!

The Will & Grace reunion revolving around the 2016 Presidential Campaign has garnered more than 3 million views in 24 hours on YouTube. Of course, fans are awaiting news regarding a proper comeback. The cast seems interested as well. They’re hoping to do a 10 episode series on Amazon, Netflix or any platform that’ll allow them to do a naughty version of the show. I would love the series to return in some way or another. Fingers crossed!

James LaRosa has kept himself busy while waiting for Hit the Floor to be renewed for a fourth season. He and Jennifer Beals (Flashdance) have partnered up with choreographer and director-producer of the High School Musical franchise, Kenny Ortega. The three of them will be giving life to The Edge on Fox. James LaRosa is writing as well as executive producing the project.

What does it all mean for Hit the Floor? Fans have already banded behind the #Thongs4HTF4 campaign. I don’t know how show renewals actually work, so I can’t give a precise answer regarding the fate of Hit the Floor. However, with James LaRosa developing The Edge I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of queer representation will be present on the show.

After the tremendous success of The Jungle Book, Disney has brought Jon Favreau back to the jungle again. This time he’ll be working on a live-action remake of The Lion King. Favreau will also be working on the sequel to The Jungle Book.

We all have actors and actresses whose films we have to see no matter what kind of a project they are a part of. One such actor for me is Jonathan Bennett. Mean Girls introduced me to the actor. He recently appeared in Hit the Floor Season 3. He will next be seen in an independent film titled Do Over. It has a nationwide release date of October 11, 2016. Feel free to check out the trailer. I’m holding my opinion of the movie until I’ve actually seen it.

Pitchfork is an upcoming gay-themed indie horror film. According to the producers, “Having recently shared a life-changing secret with his family, Hunter recruits his friends to come with him from New York to the farm where he grew up as he faces his parents for the first time. As the college students enjoy the fresh air of Michigan farm country, an older, more dangerous secret slowly emerges. While Hunter (Daniel Wilkinson) navigates a new place within his conservative family, a vicious creature from their past descends on the farm, putting the unsuspecting city kids in mortal danger.”

Glenn Douglas Packard directed the film. Uncork’d Entertainment will be releasing it early in 2017. Here’s the trailer for Pitchfork!

The Tremors series isn’t going anywhere. A sixth film in the series has been greenlit. However, there’s no information whether or not it will have a connection with the in-development TV series that’ll see the return of Kevin Bacon to the franchise.
