The Lion King Trailer For The CG Adaptation Is Beautiful!

The Lion King CG Disney movie

Disney has released The Lion King trailer and it looks gorgeous. Directed by Jon Favreau, the CG adaptation of the Disney classic will be released on July 19, 2019.

Jon Favreau did an amazing job with The Jungle Book and you can see him offering the same quality in The Lion King trailer, too. The newly released trailer features scenes from the animated movie with voiceover by James Earl Jones who reprises his role as Mufasa.

Check out the trailer!

While the trailer boasts the names of the impressive cast, I would have liked it to show their respective characters as well instead of just a black background.

Actor Donald Glover (also known as Childish Gambino) will voice Simba. Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner are Pumbaa and Timon respectively. Chiwetel Ejiofer will be voicing Scar, our savior Beyonce is the voice of Nala, Zazu will be voiced by John Oliver, and Rafiki will be voiced by John Kani.

Here’s my reaction!

Cub Simba looks very cute. However, I’m not too sold on adult Simba’s design. For me, the future King of the Pride Lands looks too generic. The animated Simba has a very distinct look with his reddish-orange mane. The one in the CG adaptation doesn’t seem to have anything unique about him. I want Simba to stand out from the crowd and not look like any other lion you could see at the zoo or on the National Geographic channel.

Maybe the motion-capture facial acting will help give the adult Simba more personality? We will have to wait until July 19, 2019 to find out.

Also, I can’t wait to listen to famous songs from the animated version sung by Donald Glover and Beyonce, the reigning Queen of the music industry.

Disney’s animated film was released back in 1994 and went on to gross more than $960 million over the decades. Let’s see how much the CG adaptation is able to make and if it will have a staying power similar to the animated version.
