Lisa Glenn Interview: Author of Female-centric stories!

a1

Today I have author Lisa Glenn with me. I’m familiar with her work and she has an impressive talent , especially when it comes to writing interesting female characters that battle the odds for their loved ones. Check out our exclusive interview!

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Well not much to tell. I’m your conventional boring person. I live in Florida with my daughter, five chickens, and a dog who is AHD. I write in my spare time. I work part-time and attend college part-time. I would rather stay at home than go out. I love coffee and chocolate. I love to read and write. I am a terrible housekeeper and I am awkwardly shy. I love fantasy and paranormal books although, I write a mixture of all genres. Fiction mainstream is what I like to call the books I do write.

Did you always want to become a writer or was it something that came up later in life?

Yes, since I was 13. I picked up a harlequin romance and fell in love with reading and always wanted to write but was scared.

Any favorite authors/titles?

I love Johanna Lindsey, Karen Marie Moning, Janet Evanovich, James Patterson and Hannah Howell are some of my favorite authors. I really can’t think of any specific titles. I love Janet’s One for the money series and Karen’s Fever series and of course I love all of James Patterson’s.

Being familiar with your work, they feature strong, complex female leads. What do you keep in mind when writing such characters?

Wishing I was that person. I pick out someone who I believe is strong and work off of them. Actually, each female character is based on a family member.

Any message you hope readers will get when they read your work?

Yes, and that would be to have faith in yourself, the possibilities are endless, but mainly that family is very important so take care of them.

A lot of people want to write but they are uncertain about where to start. Some start but never finish. Do you have any advice for them?

Just write. All those stories in your head, just write them down and then ask for help. There are so many wonderful authors who are more than willing to help. My first book was horrible, but I have learned and still am learning how to become better. I would have given up if it hadn’t been for some great authors who pushed me.

Many authors are going towards the ‘self-publishing’ route. Do you think it’s better than traditional publishing?

Well…I am both. I have one book that is through a publisher and the others that are self-published. Both are hard work. I believe if you find a good publisher that bats for you then go for it. I have the best of both worlds. I like to be in control but I also like to give over the reins once in a while.

Any up-coming works you want to talk about?

Yes, thanks for asking. I have two that will be out soon. Shelby, will be released on October 31, 2014. It’s actually available for pre-order on Amazon.com. This book is about a 14 year old girl who overcomes great obstacles to find happiness. She travels over 2000 miles in search of her Mother. In November I have a book coming out called The Fisherman, a fantasy romance about a woman who has to choose between good and evil.
