“Marvel Legacy” Issue 1 Will Introduce The 1,000,000 BC Avengers Team This September!

Marvel Comics is ready to give readers a history lesson when Marvel Legacy Issue 1 hits the stand this September. Get ready for the Avengers team from 1,000,000 BC!

While I’m not a huge fan of the Avengers, I’m excited to see the 1,000,000 version of the team. Marvel Legacy Issue 1 will introduce the first Avengers that included Odin, Iron First, Star Brand, Phoenix, Ghost Rider, Black Panther, and Agamotto.

Writer Jason Aaron will be working on Marvel Legacy along with artist Esad Ribic. The upcoming 50-page one-shot will show fans how it is “all connected.” According to Marvel, the first issue “brings your favorite characters together for exciting and epic new stories that will culminate in returning to original series numbering for long-running titles.”

Marvel Legacy #1 isn’t simply a history lesson,” says SVP and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “Rather, it’s the starting gun to a bevy of mysteries and secrets and revelations that will reverberate across the Marvel Universe in the weeks and months to come! No character, no franchise will be untouched by the game-changing events that play out across its pages. Jason and Esad pulled out all the stops to fat-pack this colossal issue with as much intrigue, action, surprise, mystery, shock and adventure as possible!”

Marvel Legacy #1 will present all fans – new readers and current readers – the very best jumping on point in the history of comics,” says Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso. “What Jason and Esad have crafted is more grand and more gargantuan than anything we have ever seen before and introduces concepts and characters the Marvel Universe has never encountered. Fans are going to witness an all-new look at the Marvel Universe starting at one of the earliest moments in time carried all the way into present day. Not only will this be the catalyst for Marvel evolving and moving forward, but expect it to be the spark that will ignite the industry as a whole.”

While the upcoming issue has me excited, I’m not so sure about the cover art that has been released. You can see Storm in it, and I just hope she doesn’t end up being Marvel’s token black female character again. The company used her during the Secret Empire promo, and even though four issues have been released she hasn’t appeared once in the main storyline. I don’t think she has appeared in any of the numerous tie-ins either.

Which I guess is a good thing considering Secret Empire is problematic (as explained by our comic book expert, Khai). Speaking of characters who are missing-in-action, Wiccan and Hulkling haven’t shown up either. Not having Wiccan in Secret Empire feels a bit convenient. He could rewrite the entire mess if he wanted. Our headcanon is that Wiccan and Hulkling are enjoying a vacation away from the drama.

Anyway, if you’re tempted to read Marvel Legacy due to Storm, I suggest you wait and see if she will actually be showing up.

  1. I’m cautiously optimistic that I can add Marvel back to my pull list after this Secret Empire situation. You raise a good point about Storm, though.

(Side note: Anyone else starting to get the feeling that we were seriously faked out with the “no really I promise it’s the real Steve Rogers who is Hydra, voluntarily” thing Marvel was pushing so hard? Nazi baiting is not cool, Mssrs Spencer and Brevoort.)

  2. Where the is wiccan? I’ve been asking the same thing. Not just secret empire but also Monsters Unleashed.
