Boruto: Naruto Next Generations 1×45 Review: Memories From the Day of Snow

Boruto anime episode 45 review Memories from the day of snow shikadai
Ryogi and Shikadai in ‘Memories From the Day of Snow’

‘Memories From the Day of Snow’ showed us Ryogi’s past and how he joined the Byakuya Gang as Boruto: Naruto Next Generations’ current arc about the noble thieves nears conclusion.

The current Byakuya Gang arc has been talking about stuff I think a portion of this anime’s young audience might not understand, at least not fully. However, I’m still glad the Boruto anime decided to focus on a story that tackles the issue of stealing and how everything (including what it means to be a ninja) isn’t always black and white, especially in the world of grownups.

‘Memories From the Day of Snow’ showed us Ryogi’s past and how he came to join the Byakuya Gang. His story wasn’t anything original, but I did appreciate the anime showing us the tragic events in his life to flesh out the young character. While he experienced slight hesitation, he did decide to stick with the gang by the end of this week’s episode.

I really enjoyed the scene where Shikadai was able to uncover Ryogi’s true identity. Shikadai is very smart and it’s always a treat watching him use his brain. Our young shadow-jutsu user is clearly going through a few doubts in his life. We saw him hesitate when his mother asked for help during a battle and he hesitated again in ‘Memories From the Day of Snow.’ Even Ryogi called him out on it.

I’m looking forward to seeing Shikadai finally being determined enough to take action during a high-stakes situation. Being familiar with how such storytelling works, I’m sure he’ll confront Ryogi in the next episode and do something to put a stop to the noble thieves.

With the current story arc nearing its end, I wonder what the next will be about. The episode did mention the Chunin exams being held in the village soon. However, before the exams happen, I do feel the anime has to focus on Sumire and her all-female ninja team. I need to know what made Sumire choose a different line of work.

What did you think of Boruto this week? Did you enjoy ‘Memories From the Day of Snow’? Feel free to share your thoughts with us.
