Midnight, Texas 2×06 Review: No More Mr. Nice Kai

Midnight Texas No More Mr Nice Kai review

This week’s episode of Midnight, Texas offered a couple of events which have led me to not review this show anymore unless things change. ‘No More Mr. Nice Kai’ brought back Creek for the worst reason possible while also taking Chuy and Joe’s relationship in the most predictable direction. Sigh!

During the first season of Midnight, Texas I decided not to review some of the later episodes because of the ‘virgin-women-are-pure’ narrative. Now in the second season, two things happened in ‘No More Mr. Nice Kai’ which have led me to stop reviewing this show again. Unless something changes in the upcoming episodes, this will be my last review of this show on this website.

After making the sane decision to leave Midnight, Creek came back due to a voice message from Manfred. It was soon revealed Manfred never messaged her. Turns out there is a trickster demigod in Midnight who has been messing with certain characters because of the secrets they have.

Kai found out about Patience cheating on him with Manfred. Fiji gave into her dark side as a witch. And Joe and Chuy… I disliked this episode so much!

First of all, bringing back Creek just to have her mysteriously killed by the end of the episode is poor writing. She got fridged for Manfred’s manpain and that’s just frustrating. I expected better from this show.

As for Joe and Chuy’s relationship, Joe cheated on Chuy with Walker. Chuy found out and turned into a demon and ran away. It was the most predictable route the writers could have taken with the queer couple.

I don’t buy a single sad man having enough power over Joe to have him cheat on Chuy (his husband for more than a 1000 years), especially when the first season had Joe think of Chuy as his heart. Now, the writers could wave off the cheating thing by blaming the demigod messing with certain events. So, let’s see what happens in the next episode considering Joe did run after a demonic Chuy to get him back. Is Chuy going to forgive Joe? Is the angel being tested by God? Frankly, at this point, I don’t care. Chuy deserves better!

And even if I’m able to forgive the writers for what they did to Joe and Chuy depending on how they handle the situation, I don’t think I’ll be able to do the same for what they did to Creek. They might have Manfred travel to the underworld to get her back or something. But until that happens, my disappointment in this show will continue.
