New PV Reveals New OP for Shokugeki no Soma Season 3

Shokugeki no Soma season 3

Last weekend, at Warner Brothers Japan booth at the 2018 AnimeJapan event, they screened a new 60-second PV for the upcoming second half of Shokugeki no Soma season 3. In it, we get our first listen of the brand new OP, featuring footage from the highly-anticipated “Totsuki train” arc.

The new OP theme song is called “Symbol” by the group Luck Life, and you can hear it in the new PV for the second half of Shokugeki no Soma season 3.

When we last left our intrepid heroes, in the first part of Shokugeki no Soma season 3, Yukihira had just revealed to Azami that Saiba, his revered senpai – and Erina’s beloved sensei – is actually Yukihira’s father. *cue dramatic music* Also, Azami has taken over the school, forced out the old headmaster, and completely eliminated all need for competition or originality. Erina has moved into the Polar Star Dormitory to get away from her father’s influence. Yukihira faced off with First Seat Tsukasa Eishi and lost, but Tsukasa didn’t hold him to his part of the bargain. In short, stuff is going down.

Shokugeki no Soma season 3When season 3 returns on April 8, we will pick up where we left off, with our first years about to face their promotional exams. The stakes for our PSD kids and their friends are much higher than they’ve ever been, considering they are now working at a distinct disadvantage – namely, pretty much everyone else in the school wants them gone. Also known as the “Totsuki train” arc, this storyline features the students traveling to various regions across Japan and facing different culinary challenges based on the region.

The train arc was actually one of my favorites from the manga. I really like how it shows the kids coming together and cooperating to overcome some unbelievable obstacles, some of the more underdeveloped characters get a bigger spotlight, and there are some really awesome images that I can’t wait to see animated. So I’m excited for the show’s return next month.

While I adore the train arc, the Central plot as a whole has started to drag in the manga. I’m hoping that the anime will trim the fat a bit and cut out a lot of the unnecessary stuff to streamline the story. Then again, animation tends to do that anyway. It feels like I’ve been reading this same story for months, but the anime will cut it down a lot.

Are you guys excited for the second half of Shokugeki no Soma season 3? What do you think about the new OP?
