You Are Not Alone – a Fan Crisis Support Network

You Are Not Alone

Recently, Supernatural’s Misha Collins and Jensen Ackles came up with a plan to help provide support for those in crisis.  The idea came to them while on a flight back from one of their many fan conventions with fellow Supernatural actor, Jared Padalecki.

They were thinking about all the many stories they had heard from fans who have said that Supernatural in one way or another had helped to save their lives.  After six months of planning, Misha Collins posted a video on his Twitter account with his children, letting his followers know that they are not alone.

It was a sweet message that resonated with many fans.  Little did fans know that Misha was planning to go somewhere with that cute little video.  Misha and Jensen announced the You Are Not Alone campaign.  It is designed to raise funds to support a crisis support network for fans by the fans: The #SPNFamily Crisis Support Network.  Misha Collins’ charity, Random Acts is teaming up with To Write Love on Her Arms and IMAlive to help get this network off the ground.  Volunteers will be thoroughly vetted and trained through IMAlive’s training program.

All three actors are no strangers to supporting their fans and supporting charity causes.  Misha Collins co-founded Random Acts after witnessing how charitable the Supernatural fandom is.  Jared Padalecki had created the Always Keep Fighting campaign which donates to To Write Love on Her Arms and helps to overcome the stigma of mental illness.  This cause goes hand-in-hand with the support network that Jensen and Misha are developing.

Funds are currently being raised through sales of You Are Not Alone t-shirts through Creation Entertainment’s Creation Stands website.  A portion of the proceeds will go to the #SPNFamily Crisis Support Network.  Funds can also be donated directly to Random Acts with 100% of the proceeds going toward the support network.  Make sure to earmark the donation for YANA, You Are Not Alone, or #SPNFamily Crisis Support Network.

Conversely, if you would like to donate, but do not want a shirt, @SPN_sil is putting together a list of donors for people who would like to donate a shirt to those who cannot afford one.  Contact her on Twitter, if you would like to donate a shirt.  At the moment there are quite a few people waiting to be matched with donors. Act quickly if you would like to get involved in the fundraiser. There is just 5 days left!

Remember, there is no shame in having a mental illness.  Help and support is out there if you are in crisis.  Always Keep Fighting, because You Are Not Alone.
