Claws 2×4 Review: Scream

Claws Season 2 Episode 4 review Scream
Quiet Ann in ‘Scream’ (Image: Screengrab)

I don’t know about the rest of you but for me ‘Scream’ has got to be one of the best episodes of Claws. We learned a lot about Quiet Ann and I can’t wait to know what will happen to her next!

I was provided a screener of ‘Scream’ for review. The opinions are my own.

As a fan of Quiet Ann, I liked how Claws season 2 didn’t ignore the fact she had to end her relationship with Arlene to keep Desna safe during the first season. The previous episodes have shown us subtle hints of an unhappy Ann. She does a lot for her group of friends and it is frustrating to see how she doesn’t receive the same kind of attention from them. ‘Scream’ allowed us to listen to Ann’s internal voice and what she thinks of everything happening around her.

We also got to meet her brother, state senator Henry Zayas. While Ann is able to live an open life as a lesbian, her brother has to stay in the closet in front of their parents and due to the current political climate. I really enjoyed the family meeting. It was clear to me something was off the moment Ann started to talk to her parents.

We were led to believe that Ann was shut out by the family because of her sexuality. However, her parents grew distant because they saw wasted potential when they looked at their daughter. Turns out Ann has a degree and knows five languages. But her unwillingness to do anything with her education is what her parents can’t understand. Ann’s mother and father couldn’t care less about her sexuality or her brother’s sexuality because they too were queer!

I laughed out loud at the reveal. No one is Ann’s family is straight! Wow! The entire thing was weird but it worked because of how Claws is as a show. Also, I am happy that Ann worked things out with her parents. Here’s to hoping we get to see her interact more with her family.

Another big moment Ann had to experience in ‘Scream’ dealt with her lashing out at Desna. Not only did Ann have to break things off with Arlene back in season one, she also had to make Arlene lose her job as a detective to keep Desna safe. Seeing Ann yelling at Desna and even slapping her across the face made for a very emotional moment. Of course, the friends settled things in the end. I just hope they try and be there for Ann as much as she’s there for the group as the season progresses.

Some thoughts and questions:

  • Does anyone care about Jenn and Bryce’s relationship issues?
  • Polly needs to figure things out with Marnie. I don’t want the two to end things on a bad note.
  • How many of you were shaking your head in disappointment when Ann told Arlene the truth?
  • Do you think Dr. Ken will tell Arlene what she wants to know?
  • I still think Gregory’s mother is hiding something.
  • The ratings are steady. Give us a third season, TNT! (Update June 3, 2018: It has been renewed!)

What did you think of Claws this week? Did you enjoy ‘Scream’? Let us know.
