Short Horror Story Contest on The Geekiary’s Subreddit!

short horror story contest

Some time ago The Geekiary created a subreddit for the website, and we’re finally working on utilizing it to drive interactions between our writers and readers. As it’s Halloween season, our first big subreddit project is a short horror story contest!

All short stories must be submitted as comments on the original short horror story contest guidelines post on Reddit; that said, here are the rules we’ve set forth for the contest:

1) Short horror story contest entries have to be left as comments on this Geekiary subreddit post between October 1st, 2016 and midnight October 28th, 2016.

2) Stories must be original horror-themed stories, with a word count between 250 and 500 words.

3) All submissions must also comply with the following:
(a) Nothing overly explicit
(b) Nothing that would be rated Mature or Explicit about underage characters
(c) Nothing non-consensual or featuring dubious consent
(d) Nothing that goes against The Geekiary’s general guidelines, outlined here: https://thegeekiary.com/about

5) By posting your story on The Geekiary subreddit, you are acknowledging the following:
(a) The Geekiary is allowed to repost your story on the website should it make the top 3
(b) That said, The Geekiary will not own your story and you are welcome to post it elsewhere only after the contest is over (beginning November 1st, 2016).
(c) Again, while you are welcome to link to your story on the Reddit post, please do not post it in full anywhere else prior to November 1st, 2016.

6) SCORING & HOW TO VOTE:
(a) Upvote every story that you like. Every upvote gives a story 1 point.
(b) Comment on the ONE story that you would choose as your first pick. Every first pick comment (only one per username, please!) counts as an additional 2 points.
(c) If there are numerous ties for 1st, 2nd, and/or 3rd place, we will run a flash voting round on October 29th.

7) We will announce the winners on Sunday October 30th, 2016.

Again, please do not comment on this article with your stories – we are utilizing our subreddit to drive this contest, and of course the voting system requires that the stories be posted there. However, feel free to comment here with any questions you might have. We look forward to reading some great short horror story contest entries!
