Silk Vol 2 #9 Review

Silk #9
Silk Vol 2 #9

Silk #9 finds Cindy still working for Black Cat undercover. Evil Cindy Moon from Earth-65 has done a good job lending credence to Silk being a “villain” now. Which is aiding in Cindy to getting closer to Black Cat and her operations.

The trouble is that Cindy doesn’t have all the knowledge of the places that Evil Cindy broke into.  Cindy and Black Cat have a bit of a heart to heart — neither one of them trusts many people.

A couple of things that stood out to me in this issue; first, Stacey Lee is back as the artist for Silk.  Out of all the people who have drawn Silk and have drawn for Silk, Lee remains my absolute favorite.  Her art is beautiful and fits the character and Robbie Thompson’s writing so well.

Another thing that was very powerful and poignant to me is the inclusion of Cindy’s appointment with her therapist.  Cindy has anxiety and deals with a number of insecurities.  To be very personal, I recently started therapy myself to help me cope with my own anxiety.  To see this subject in a comic and to see it treated so well?  It means so much to me.  I know it means a lot to others too, just seeing the response to those panels when I posted them on my Twitter.  Robbie Thompson isn’t afraid to tackle these things in comic form, and it helps fight the stigma.  It may not seem like it, but including mental illness in comic books in a respectful way is very important.  My sincere thank you to Robbie Thompson.  Cindy’s therapist is right, she deserves to be happy too. (As do we all.)

At the end of the comic, it looks like Cindy may be in a bit of trouble.  A cliffhanger for sure!  I can’t wait to read what happens next!
