Siren 1×4 Review: On The Road

Siren On The Road

This was quite a week on Siren. We had some pretty big bombshells dropped, and some plot points tied up in such a nice bow that I feel like the show could be over. But “On The Road” is only episode four of the season, so obviously we aren’t done. Fortunately, that opens the door for some very unpredictable story lines and plots, which is how I like my drama.

One thing that was not terribly predictable but still awesome to be confirmed in “On The Road” is the reveal that Helen is a mermaid. It seemed a little too convenient that she was so knowledgeable about Ryn and her dietary and skin needs to just be a concerned citizen, but it was still a fun reveal. It will be interesting to see how Helen will continue to fit in to the show now that we have this knowledge. And will anyone else on the show besides Ryn become privy to this knowledge? Only time will tell.

I am continuing on thSiren On The Roade Ryn/Maddie ship train. I love these two together, and they continue to have some great tender moments. There is something so symbolic about the great female relationships on this show. Obviously, the bond between Ryn and her sister (via some great Frozen references) is really the heart of the show, but the maternal bond between Helen and Ryn is starting to come to the forefront, and the trusting relationship with Ryn and Maddie is just starting to blossom. (And that gift of the moon necklace was great.) I can’t wait! Especially now that we have seen Ryn and her sister reunite.

The other story lines in “On The Road” here a little ho-hum for me. Obviously I am glad that the guys found Chris and that he is doing well, but I really don’t care much about the conspiracy or the dudes very much at all. I don’t hate it, it just doesn’t interest me as much as the female relationships. I am interested to see where the conspiracy goes down the line and if the government will continue to do the mermaid research. I also am hoping that Maddie can continue to deflect her father away from the Ryn murder questioning because we just don’t need that right now.

Siren is really starting to get good, and I am happy to be here for the ride. In fact, it seems as though others are under the siren song spell because the viewership numbers are up. This is great news! “On The Road” was such a fast-paced and solid episode that tied up a lot of loose ends, and I am looking forward to seeing where we go from here.
