Steven Universe Soundtrack Will Rock the Cosmos Coming This June

Yesterday, the 11th of April, the official Cartoon Network Twitter created a poll asking “Steven universe soundtrack, Yay or Nay?” A whopping 86% percent answered YES!, so it is clear fans are majorly on board. Some of them rushed to the Twitter of one of the show’s official composers, Aivi Tran of the duo Aivi and Surasshu. She wrote, “We’re working on an [exciting thing], and it involves a bit of caffeine and panicking on our end, but we want you to love the end result.”

Now hopes have been confirmed, with the official Cartoon Network press release stating:

Fans of Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe have asked for a compilation of the music that plays such an important role the beloved hit series, and that demand is being answered with Steven Universe Soundtrack: Volume 1, available globally on Friday, June 2, 2017.

The soundtrack will feature songs originally heard in the series’ 120-plus episodes, including the iconic theme song, “We Are the Crystal Gems.”

This is awesome news. Music has always been a central part of the show, weaving together the leitmotifs of individual characters, settings, and emotions to create amazing emotional depth. In addition to a lovely background score, the show has also become famous for its spectacular musical theater style numbers, including the showstoppers “Stronger Than You”, “It’s Over, Isn’t It?” and “Here Comes a Thought”. Finally fans will have a way to legally purchase all these amazing moments, and share their support of the show through song.

There is no word yet on whether or not the Steven Universe Soundtrack: Volume 1 will mean Aivi & Surasshu will offer fewer songs on their Soundcloud, which is where they have put select tracks from the show up until now. It’s also unclear whether or not the official soundtrack will include only vocal tracks, or instrumentals as well. It would certainly be difficult, considering just how many tracks there will be… but hey, maybe if it does well, we could see more volumes in the future!
