Still About Section 377 is a well-written streaming show which highlights queer lives in India. If you have been wondering about LGBTQ+ issues in other countries, I recommend you check it out.

Still About Section 377 serves as a sequel to All About Section 377 which focused on a straight guy getting used to living with two gay guys. The show used its narrative to educate viewers about queer lives in India. The sequel continues the story of the original characters, this time taking them away from the city and placing them in a rural setting.

You should definitely read up on the Section 377 Penal Code in India about same-sex relationships. While the Supreme Court in the country has decriminalized consensual queer sex, how society continues to react toward the LGBTQ+ community is a different matter.

In Still About Section 377, we see people learn how to be more accepting and we have those who will never stop their homophobia. We also get individuals who aren’t fully on board with same-sex relationships but respect the queer people around them. I liked how the series was able to show many schools of thought in only 9 episodes, with each being approximately 20 minutes long.

As for the main plot, we have Sid calling Rohit (his boyfriend for 4 years) and telling him their relationship is over because he is marrying a woman his parents have selected for him. This leads to Rohit crashing Sid’s wedding preparations in Sid’s village. The two then try to figure out how to make Sid’s family accept their relationship.

The series also introduces Bhakti, a talented trans woman who is shunned by the village. I hope we get to see Bhakti again. She deserves happiness.

Also, while I get why Rohit (played by writer/director Amit Khanna) might seem too stereotypically feminine to certain viewers, I appreciate the different types of queer men this series continues to show. There is no correct way for gay men to act. Everyone expresses themselves differently and that’s a good thing.

If you are looking for queer content to make you laugh and think at the same time while addressing issues queer people face in India, I highly recommend watching Still About Section 377.

You can watch it on Sony Liv or on YouTube.
