‘Supergirl’ Gets Seven Additional Episodes from CBS!

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Supergirl! And she’ll be flying high even longer, because the first season chronicling the adventures of Superman’s cousin has received additional episodes!

According to Variety, CBS has ordered seven additional episodes of Supergirl, which brings the first season total to an impressive twenty episodes. The move was expected, considering the impressive ratings the show has garnered since its debut in October. Former Glee star Melissa Benoist stars as Kara Danvers aka Supergirl, and the TV series is about her coming into her own as a superhero and following in her cousin’s footsteps.

The show is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, who is also one of powers behind hits such as Arrow and The Flash on The CW. So, if you haven’t given Supergirl a chance yet, make sure to read what we thought about the pilot and go watch it now.

I hope the success of Supergirl opens doors for other female characters on our TV screens and everyone realizes that they too are a force to be reckoned with, just like their male counterparts if not better.

Do you watch Supergirl? Are you excited about the additional episodes? Let us know!

  1. I’ve been watching the show but have mixed feelings about it:

    Pros:
    – women speaking
    – women in power
    – super hero show

    Cons:
    – Supergirl’s name being Kara Danvers (seems like a DC vs Marvel power play given that her name was typically Linda Lee iirc and Ms Marvel/Captain Marvel (female) is most commonly Carol Davers).
    – The romance/jealousy over Jimmy Olsen seems premature and over done (though I am more forgiving of this after the latest ep’s anger out burst scene).
    – I’d like more of the humor to be from witty comments and less from campy villains (though I appreciate both forms of humor, I just want to see her get a more serious villain and less angsty lines now and then).

  2. On another, somewhat tangential note… Are you guys going to do any show master-posts for the truly excellent tv shows that were out before Supergirl and have (primarily) female leads: IZombie, The 100, Agent Carter?

      1. I read that article and loved it.. Now you need a follow up adding Jessica Jones! And maybe some honorable mentions for the AOS ladies: Melinda May, Daisy Johnson, Bobbi Morse, Jemma Simmons (OMG 4,722 hours was just .. wow! Even if Closure was horribly misogynistic).
