The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series “A New Frontier” Episode 4 “Thicker Than Water” Review

The walking dead telltale series a new frontier episode 4 Thicker Than Water

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series “A New Frontier” Episode 4 “Thicker Than Water” was about the bonds between the characters and if family and loyal friends were equal.

I have to admit that Joan doesn’t come across as a memorable villain in A New Frontier. “Above The Law” made it obvious that something was terribly wrong in Richmond and knowing that Joan was behind it didn’t come as a surprise.

“Thicker Than Water” picked up from where the third episode ended and we saw Javi and David being held prisoner. There were options to negotiate with Joan but I didn’t use any of them. She was a vile character, thinking that she had the right to kill others with consequence, so of course, I went against her every time I could.

“Thicker Than Water” had three flashbacks. The first was about Javi and David before the zombie-apocalypse. I’ve been wondering about David and Jane’s marriage and it turns out they had been fighting for a long time. However, I still don’t know why David asked her to marry him and why Jane said yes. How did those two fall in love in the first place? Making David look like someone who wanted to run away from his responsibilities felt like lazy writing, a way to make fans feel okay if they decide to romance Jane.

I kept Javi away from Jane as much as possible. Even if she has problems with David there’s no way I was going to come between her and David. Zombie apocalypse or not, romancing your brother’s wife while he’s still alive is a mess I don’t want any part of.

If you think I’m talking too much about the romantic sub-plot, you’re right, because there was a lot of it in this episode. “Thicker Than Water” also made it clear that Clementine was growing up (making sure to have a couple of scenes revolving around her menstrual cycle). Also, Gabe is clearly interested in her, so let’s see if the young romance will blossom. Maybe Clem will end it by coming out as a lesbian or telling him to back off. Who knows?

We still haven’t met AJ, which is weird considering Clementine had two of the three flashbacks and he’s supposed to be in Richmond. The first one showed her taking care of AJ with Jane and the second one took place after David took AJ. I really wanted to see Clementine reunite with AJ, but I guess we’ll have to wait for the final and fifth episode.

With how things ended in “Thicker Than Water”, let’s see what happens next. There’s a good chance Javi, David, and the rest are able to save Richmond and maintain order. It’ll also be interesting to see where the story takes Clementine next.
