Netflix has released the teaser trailer for The Umbrella Academy. The upcoming superhero show will premiere worldwide on February 15, 2019. I’m going to honest with you all. The only reason I will be watching this show is because of Ellen Page.

Ellen Page is an amazing actress and activist. I am so happy she continues to get work while living an openly queer life. All the power to her. She deserves the best and I hope The Umbrella Academy does well for her.

The live-action series is based on The Umbrella Academy comic books written/created by Gerard Way with Gabriel Ba serving as the illustrator and published by Dark Horse Comics. The first season of the show will consist of 10 one-hour episodes.

It stars Ellen Page, Mary J. Blige, Cameron Britton, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Colm Feore, Adam Godley, John Magaro, Ashley Madekwe, and Kate Walsh.

Here’s the teaser trailer!

As far as the plot is concerned, 43 infants are born on the same day in October 1989. The women showed no signs of pregnancy a day prior. Billionaire Reginald Hargreaves adopts the kids that display superpowers and houses them in the Umbrella Academy. The children go through training to save the world. There’s Vanya/The White Violin (Ellen Page), Luther/Spaceboy (Tom Hopper), Diego/The Kraken (David Castañeda), Allison/The Rumor (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus/The Séance (Robert Sheehan), and Number Five/The Boy (Aidan Gallagher).

Reginald Hargreaves dies and the adopted siblings have to come together to solve the mystery surrounding his death. There’s also the threat of an upcoming apocalypse.

Shot in Toronto, The Umbrella Academy is produced by NBCUniversal’s Universal Cable Productions for Netflix, with Steve Blackman serving as executive producer and showrunner. Additional executive producers are Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Gerard Way, and Gabriel Bá.

While you wait for February 15, 2019, you should check out Page’s Gaycation series as well as her zombie-flick The Cured.
