Warner Bros Discovery Announces SDCC Lineup: House of the Dragon & More!

SDCC Warner Bros Discovery Bags SDCC

Warner Bros Discovery, the newly merged WB and Discovery company, has released some of their SDCC plans. These include House of the Dragon, several other TV shows, and tons of DC content.

While I’m sure that House of the Dragon’s presence at SDCC is a surprise to absolutely nobody, it’s still nice to have confirmation. Game of Thrones has always had a huge presence, and it’s clear they hope this show continues to carry that torch. But Warner Bros Discovery comes bearing many more gifts beyond that. It looks like a pretty full slate, which gives some hope that other studios will also show up with their most desirable content.

Surprisingly, though, they will not have a booth, which is a pretty major change. They will have a presence on the bags this year, though, so it’s not all different. In fact, I suspect even more announcements from them. There’s a surprising lack of major films on their current roster. More announcements are expected.

Press releases for Warner Bros Discovery’s content are light on the exact talent lineups, dates, or even rooms, but we can take a few guesses based on precedent. The official San Diego Comic-Con schedule will begin getting released daily starting on July 7th, so we won’t have to wait too long without solid information. I’ll try to theorize where I can, though.

Warner Bros Discovery TV Show Panels

Warner Bros Discovery is bringing four shows to SDCC, one of which is going to include an advanced screening. TV fans will have plenty to look forward to this year. Most of them will be in Hall H, so prepare to battle the line to enjoy this content.

House of the Dragon

What can we say about this show that I haven’t already said in my previous articles? Not much. Despite being crushingly disappointed in the Game of Thrones finale, I am fully prepared to give this show a fair chance. As a result, I’ll definitely try to attend this panel if I can. I am, however, committed to Saturday in Hall H, so it’ll be largely dependent on which day this panel lands on.

Based on previous Game of Thrones patterns, my guess is that’ll be on Friday in Hall H. We’ll see.

The show will premiere on August 21 on HBO and HBO Max.

The Sandman Video Presentation and Q&A

Neil Gaiman’s enormously popular comic is getting the adaption treatment, and fans will be able to watch a special video presentation and Q&A at SDCC for it. This is also currently scheduled to take place in Hall H on an undetermined day. It’s hard for me to guess with this one since TV shows tend to be placed on almost every day in Hall H. Unlike House of the Dragon, it doesn’t have a franchise to set precedent, so it’s anyone’s guess.

At the moment only vague ‘stars and producers’ have been announced as being in attendance. It’s sure to be exciting for fans of the source material nonetheless.

The series will premiere on August 5 on Netflix.

Riverdale Special Video Presentation and Q&A

This will be the ‘fifth and final’ Riverdale panel. Similar to Sandman, this will consist of a special video presentation and a Q&A with ‘stars and producers.’ Warner Bros Discovery is being quite vague with these! I’m sure this one will be a pretty thorough panel, though. Riverdale is in its sixth season and it’s still fairly popular. Those CW dramas tend to have pretty dedicated fanbases and this is a farewell panel, so they’ll probably bring everyone they can.

These panels have historically been on Sunday in Hall H, much like Supernatural used to be. Like the other entrants on this list, though, the press release does not confirm a date.

Season six of Riverdale is airing on Sundays at 8/7c on The CW.

Harley Quinn Season 3 Advanced Screening

The third season of Harley Quinn is scheduled to be released on HBO Max in July, but since this is an advanced screening, I assume it’ll be some time after July 24th. Fans will have an opportunity to watch the first two episodes.

The Eat. Bang! Kill Tour is rolling through San Diego for an early look at what’s in store for Harlivy. Join us for a special advance screening of the first two episodes of season three of Harley Quinn at San Diego Comic-Con before its summer premiere on HBO Max. Seats will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Harley Quinn is produced by Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions and Yes, Norman Productions in association with Warner Bros. Animation.

Historically, sneak peeks are aired on Wednesdays, but I’ve also seen sneak peeks aired during panel slots during the rest of the con. Hard to say how this one is going to go. If I were betting, I’d place this on Wednesday Preview Night.

Warner Bros Discovery Movie Panels

So far they only have one movie announced. With the Warner Bros Discovery merger, however, it’s possible the bigger films will be announced separately. Or perhaps they really are ditching movies this year! Who knows?

Green Lantern: Beware My Power Premiere and Panel

Yes, they are bringing two premieres to the con! Warner Bros Discovery just really loves us I guess. This one, however, is advertised as including a panel along with the premiere, so I suspect this will be held during a regular panel slot and not on Preview Night.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment continues its annual Comic-Con tradition of hosting debuts of original DC Universe Movies with the world premiere of Green Lantern: Beware My Power.

The all-new intergalactic thriller features John Stewart’s first adventure as a member of the Green Lantern corps. In the film, the initially reluctant Stewart (voiced by Aldis Hodge) — aided by Green Arrow (Jimmi Simpson), Adam Strange (Brian Bloom) and Hawkgirl (Jamie Gray Hyder) — must contend with a horde of interplanetary killers bent on eliminating every Green Lantern in the universe, while also journeying into the heart of a raging Rann/Thanagar war to somehow succeed where all other Green Lanterns have failed.

After the screening, cast members and filmmakers will host an in-depth, entertaining panel discussion. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Green Lantern: Beware My Power arrives on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray, and Digital on July 26, 2022.

Warner Bros Discovery Video Games Panels

But Warner Bros Discovery isn’t just bringing TV shows and a movie to the con. They’re also bringing a couple of video games.

The game team is expected to talk about the upcoming open-world RPG Gotham Knights.  Panelists will include Patrick Redding (Creative Director, Warner Bros. Games Montréal), Ann Lemay (Narrative Director, Warner Bros. Games Montréal), Wilson Mui (Cinematic Director, Warner Bros. Games Montréal), along with actors America Young as Batgirl and Christopher Sean as Nightwing.

The Gotham Knights game is scheduled to release worldwide on Oct. 25, 2022, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

They will also be hosting a panel on their mash-up game MultiVersus. This panel is expected to include Tony Huynh, the Co-Founder of Player First Games and Game Director for MultiVersus, and Sheloman Byrd, Executive Producer, Warner Bros. Games, along with MultiVersus actors Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo), voice of Shaggy, and Tara Strong (My Little Pony, Teen Titans Go!), the voice of Harley Quinn.

The MultiVersus Open Beta will be available in July 2022 on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles, and PC.

DC Comics Panels

The DC Comics panel lineup is also fairly heavy with several big-name panels announced with this press release.  Jim Lee and Friends and Tom Taylor and Tom King are scheduled to have panel discussion. There’s no date and time for either, so keep your eyes out for upcoming details.

Dark Crisis will have a panel at the con as well. It’s expected to include “key members of talent behind Dark Crisis, Dark Crisis: Young Justice, The Flash, and Worlds Without a Justice League, including Joshua Williamson, Daniel Sampere, Meghan Fitzmartin, Tom King and Jeremy Adams.”  Meanwhile, Gotham’s panel will include DC Executive Editor Ben Abernathy, Ram V (Detective Comics), Sean Gordon Murphy (Batman: Beyond the White Knight), and Tini Howard (Catwoman), Jock (Batman: One Dark Knight).

There will also be a panel called Comics Are For Everyone, which will feature DC Senior Editor Katie Kubert, Daniel Warren Johnson & Juan Gedeon (Jurassic League), Kami Garcia (Constantine: Distorted Illusions), Becky Cloonan and Michael Conrad (Batgirls).

No matter if you are a casual fan, a YA fan, completely new to comics or a weekly warrior, comics are meant to be fun and for everyone! We’ll be highlighting comics and graphic novels from across the DC Multiverse, as well as animation and more in this fun-filled panel.

Cartoon Network Panels

The Cartoon Network, which is under Warner Bros Discover, is also showing up with a ton of content.

That’s NOT All, Folks! Looney Tunes for Everyone! will cover several upcoming Looney Tunes projects and feature panelists Eric Bauza (voice of Bugs Bunny, Tweety, Daffy Duck and more), Alex Kirwan (Supervising Producer, Looney Tunes Cartoons), Abe Audish (Supervising Producer, Bugs Bunny Builders), Nate Cash and Erin Gibson (Co-Executive Producers of Tiny Toons Looniversity).

Cartoon Network: Winner Takes All sounds like it’ll be a Cartoon Network trivia panel. It’ll include the crews of Craig of the Creek (Philip Solomon, voice of Craig; Najja Porter, supervising director; Dashawn Mahone, supervising director), Teen Titans Go! (Pete Michail, executive producer; Tara Strong, voice of Raven; Khary Payton, voice of Cyborg), and We Baby Bears (Calvin Wong, showrunner; Connor Andrade, voice of Grizz; Amari McCoy, voice of Panda; Max Mitchell, voice of Ice Bear).

The Origin Story You’ve Been Waiting For…Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is an interesting one. Panelists will include Tze Chun and Brendan Hay (Executive producers), Tara Rueping (Art Director), Izaac Wang (voice of Sam), AJ LoCascio (voice of Gizmo), and Gabrielle Neveah Green (voice of Elle). You can see the first look at the show’s Wing family here.

Sesame Street Mecha Builders is sure to be a fun one as well. Who doesn’t love Sesame Street? Or Mecha? Panelists will include Olexa Hewryk, Frank Falcone, David Rudman, Ryan Dillon, and Leslie Carrara-Rudolph. The panel will be moderated by Alan Muraoka from Sesame Street.

Adult Swim Panels

We have screenings, discussions, and Q&As for four Adult Swim properties. Adult Swim tends to go all out with their presence at the convention, so I expect more from them beyond this. At the very least, they’ll probably have some strange off-site events.

SMILING FRIENDS Discussion and Q&A will feature creators Michael Cusak and Zach Hadel. The Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal Season Two Discussion and Q&A will have Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars) and Art Director Scott Wills (The Ren & Stimpy Show, Samurai Jack). Also, the Tuca & Bertie Season Three Discussion and Q&A is expected to have Lisa Hanawalt and unnamed cast members.

Meanwhile, the Rick and Morty: The Vindicators Screening and Q&A will probably be fairly popular.  Executive Producer Sarah Carbiener and Rick and Morty Producer Nick Rutherford are currently scheduled to appear. This will offer fans a first look at the upcoming spinoff series, which will no doubt draw a decent crowd.

AEW: Dynamite

I wasn’t quite sure if I should categorize this under TV shows since it’s a, uh, unique entrant. But wrestlers and comic conventions do tend to go hand-in-hand for some reason, so maybe it’s not too weird.

AEW: Heroes & Villains — Join some of the biggest stars of TBS’ AEW: Dynamite and TNT’s AEW: Rampage as they take the San Diego Comic-Con stage for the first time to give a ringside view of the wildly popular wrestling promotion.

The Q&A will feature a conversation with AEW stars CM Punk, Jade Cargill, Darby Allin, Orange Cassidy and Bryan Danielson, and will be moderated by AEW commentator Excalibur. This discussion will dig into the heroes, villains, and championship quests through the eyes of the biggest names in wrestling.

AEW: Dynamite airs every Wednesday from 8-10 p.m. ET on TNT and attracts the youngest wrestling audience on television; the fight-forward show AEW: Rampage airs every Friday from 10-11 p.m. ET.

Will you be attending any of these? Let us know!
