Will & Grace Season 9 Premieres Gets More Than 10 Million Viewers on NBC!

Will and Grace Season 9 premiere 11 Years Later

It seems that the world really was in need of more Will Truman, Grace Adler, Jack McFarland, and Karen Walker. The premiere of Will & Grace Season 9 was able to attract more than 10 million viewers for NBC!

I’ve been waiting for the new season ever since it was announced, and judging by the impressive numbers I wasn’t the only one. The Will & Grace Season 9 premiere was able to attract 10.19 million viewers for NBC. This is an impressive number for a show returning after 11 years, considering the amount of content currently available, as well as people moving towards streaming services.

While the numbers are sure to please NBC – the network has already ordered a 10th season – some people weren’t happy with the premiere. According to them, it was political and anti-Trump.

I’m definitely not going to give the tweets and comments of such individuals attention in this post. If you want to read some of them, head on over to an article published by TheBacklot. I laughed at some of the comments that said that the Will & Grace Season 9 premiere was too political and that they’d never watch again.

I mean, come on. Will & Grace has always been political. The fact that a show with main queer characters was able to debut back in 1998 was a huge political statement. So, you can’t fault the show for continuing to be political upon its return.

It might dial down the politics a bit in the next episode but as I’ve already said, it needed to take the ‘in-your-face’ political route to tell everyone where it’ll stand during the current presidency. Also, it’s 2017. You can’t make a show about queer characters and do it justice without talking about the anti-LGBTQ+ environment people are facing in their daily lives.

I could never understand how focusing on queer characters and storylines is considered too political by some people while the fact remains that not talking about queer issues on shows and making everything heteronormative is a political statement, too.

Anyway, don’t let online hate stop you from enjoying the return of Will & Grace. We need to remember that there will always be online trolls who’ve never watched the show and just like criticising everything for the sake of petty drama.

As for people who say they were fans of the series but won’t watch now because it’s anti-Trump. Well, good riddance I guess.

Let’s hope that Will & Grace Season 9 will be able to keep getting impressive viewership numbers.

Did you watch the premiere? What did you think of Will & Grace returning after 11 years? Let us know.
