A Guide to Wynonna Earp at San Diego Comic Con

Wynonna Earp

Fans of the new SyFy Channel series Wynonna Earp are still anxiously waiting to hear about a season two renewal. The cast is headed to San Diego Comic Con this weekend, though, plus there’s a fandom meet-up event going on as well. To help sort through the glorious chaos of SDCC, here’s a guide to all things Wynonna Earp at the convention.

Wynonna Earp, based on the IDW Publishing comic book, is a witty, often genuinely scary horror/urban fantasy/modern Western genre mash-up. It follows reluctant heroine Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano), the smart-mouthed, tough-yet-uncertain descendant of legendary gunslinger Wyatt Earp. Wynonna discovers she’s the heir to the family legacy of a demon-killing gun. In the fictional Midwestern town called Purgatory, home to humans, demons, and who knows what else, she teams up with her sister Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), Deputy Marshal Xavier Dolls (Shamier Anderson) from a mysterious “Black Badge” division that investigates the paranormal, Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon)—yes, that Doc Holliday, back from the dead—and local police officer Nicole Haught (Katherine Barrell). In addition to the main drive of the plot and emotional story carried mainly via the point of view of the female characters and their relationships, the show also features a satisfying LGBT romance between Waverly and Nicole. The mix of humor, horror, and emotion, the show’s diversity, as well as its visual style and knack for overturning tropes, has made Wynonna Earp a hit with fans. Hopefully SyFy Channel will announce a renewal soon.Wynonna Earp
