Yuri On Ice Art Book Means I Need A Coffee Table

Yuri On Ice art book cover

I don’t have a coffee table, but it looks like I’d better buy one soon, just so I have a place to keep the new Yuri On Ice art book that’s set to be released July 31 in Japan.

To be honest, I’m still reeling from the movie announcement and all the details from the stage event, but a Yuri On Ice art book is in the works, and this is something that I’ve just got to have. The trouble is, where do I keep a coffee table book when I don’t have a coffee table?

Fans of the increasingly popular anime will be able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process with this 200-page tome featuring characters, backgrounds, props, and other artwork from the series. The oversize format art book will also include a full-color artwork section in the middle.

Art books are my secret weakness; I have similar books for Harry Potter and Star Wars, and I’m always picking up and paging through these books whenever I’m in a bookstore. I’m positively giddy at the chance to sneak a peek at the process behind creating the show that caused me to tumble headlong down the anime rabbit hole.

Check out these sample images from the Yuri On Ice art book, which display character study sketches for Yuuri and Victor, as well as concept artwork for Yuri’s short program costume.

Yuri!!! ON ICE (Anime Ver.) Setting Materials Collection will retail for about 3000 yen (approximately $26.50 USD). Set to be published July 31 by Movic, it is currently available for pre-order online from various outlets.

What do you guys think about this news? Will the Yuri On Ice art book be a must-have for your collection? What details are you hoping to discover within its pages?
