Zenith is an upcoming RPG that seems ready to provide some quality gameplay along with making fun of the genre it is a part of.

I’ve been playing video games for years now. The gaming industry isn’t really known for being very different. There are a lot of titles out there that recycle the same ideas. That is why I’m always on the lookout for something that is fresh. Zenith, by Badland Games and Infinigon, feels different as far as RPGs go.

Players take control of a 30-something year old wizard named Argus. He is entrusted with a job to protect a very powerful artifact from….I’ll let you guess. Evil monsters? No. An evil sorcerer? No. A King who wants to rule the world? No!

Argus has to keep the artifact safe “from angsty heroes with too much free time, too many oversized swords, and a ‘chosen one’ complex that would make Neo blush.”

I mean, the plot alone warrants a full play through to see how the story will end. In all my years as a gamer I’ve never come across a title where I have to go against heroes when I’m not playing as a villain. That is why Zenith sounds like a very fun game to me.

“Argus has had his share of adventuring, exploring ruins, accidentally unleashing monsters with way too many teeth, and (repeatedly) saving the world. Argus has done it all — and he can’t wait to settle down into a safe, predictable routine. However, a new generation of heroes is itching for some action — and they want to save the world once again by gaining access to a ridiculously dangerous artifact. Argus’ vacation will have to wait.

Explore the vast world of Zenith to equip the six elements — Boots, Belt, Tunic, Bracers, Ring, and Pendant. Each element modifies Argus’s attributes to allow him to choose the best gear for each situation. Search for more than 100 items (including potions, equipment, gems, and even a pillow) to aid the grizzled wizard in his quest. Traverse highly-detailed dungeons, battle in real time, and solve puzzles to show these youngsters what a real hero can do.”

Check out the hilarious trailer. Argus is not someone who shies away from using bad language.

Marc Lopez (co-founder, Infinigon):

“The writing in Zenith brings a modern sensibility to classic ARPG tropes — allowing the player to have fun and make fun of them at the same time. Whether you grew up playing Final Fantasy or The Legend of Zelda, you’ll find something to love in the wacky world of Zenith.”

The key features include:

  • Explore a world of possibilities in a fully-realized fantasy realm.
  • Face huge bosses, dangerous foes, and angsty teenagers with a “chosen one” complex.
  • Laugh out loud with tons of parodies and pop culture references.
  • Save the world while bureaucrats tinker with apocalyptic devices.
  • Unlock special abilities and upgrade basic combo movements with an all-powerful “final blow”-type move.
  • Leave the real world behind with 25+ hours of fun-filled adventuring.

Zenith is expected to launch near the end of September, 2016. It will be available digitally on Steam and the PS4 in North America, Europe, and the UK.

A boxed edition will also be released in the UK and Europe for the PS4 and PC. It will include a developer art book and a double-sided poster.
