“A Horse For Everyone!” – Breyer’s Holiday Gift Guide Review

To absolutely nobody’s surprise, I grew up as a horse girl. Since I couldn’t have a real horse of my very own, I collected Breyer horses and grew up with them throughout my childhood. Breyer is looking a little different these days and The Geekiary has the scoop on some of the great new toys available just in time for Christmas!

Breyer provided these items for free for review. The opinions I have shared are my own.

The Breyer Horse has never gone out of style. It’s available for purchase almost everywhere, including tack shops and feed and seed stores. My mom had them growing up as well and passed their love on to me. Imagine my excitement when Breyer offered The Geekiary a chance to review some of their newer toys you should know about this gift shopping season.

We’re going to take a closer look at three Breyer toys available for purchase. With the holidays coming up, you’ll want to take the time to look for some thoughtful gifts for family and friends. And these toys could be it! 

Piper’s Pony Tales Paloma & Rayna

The Piper’s Pony Tales Paloma and Rayna figures are the first ones I picked up from the box sent to me. Both figures have soft, brushable hair. The pony figure, Rayna, doesn’t move except for her head being able to be turned side to side. It’s a little disappointing since she seems to have joints molded into the body but none of the limbs move. In the online animated show, Piper’s Pony Tales, the ponies do move via their joints so I imagine that even though the toy ponies don’t have movable joints, they’re modeled after the highly articulated ponies from the show. The good news is that Paloma has joints and can be moved quite a bit. She can sit on Rayna, can put her feet in the stirrups, and can hold the reins. She doesn’t have elbow articulation, though. 

The doll and pony come with a removable riding helmet, a sheet of stickers, a handheld brush, and the pony’s tack is removable. You can also cut out the pattern on the back of the box to create a paddock. 

I’m strongly reminded of the jointed Barbies I had as a kid but these are smaller and better suited for younger kids. The colors are bright and there aren’t too many small pieces. 

The first season of Piper’s Pony Tales is available to watch on YouTube as a collection of short-form episodes. 

Paloma and Rayna, as well as the other characters from the series, are available for purchase for $24.99 USD. 

Mane Beauty: Stardust Unicorn Styling Head

Unboxing Stardust was a bit of a challenge, I can’t lie. I haven’t had to open toys in awhile and I fought with the plastic inside. For young kids, you’ll definitely need to help them with taking Stardust out of the packaging. 

This toy comes with a variety of items to give such a pretty pink unicorn a fantasy makeover: rubber bands, heart-shaped clips, ribbons, a comb, hair jewels, hair twists, and a purple extension clipped in with a pink barrette. The possibilities are endless. 

This unicorn styling head can be an absolute delight to play with but the hair is very fine and prone to static and there’s a lot of hair, which is good for styling but bad when you’re trying to tame it. This might be disappointing to some, but the truth is that Stardust simply isn’t made for adults. It’s made for smaller fingers to braid and style.

The figure itself is beautifully painted and the gold base is great to set on a shelf to showcase the stylist’s handiwork and for using the unicorn as a display piece when not in play.

Sprinkles Sweet Shop Playset 

I think that the Sprinkles Sweet Shop playset might have been my favorite Breyer toy because she’s smaller than the other horses and I can fold everything up inside her little shop (it has a handle) and relocate it all easily. It’s also very convenient for travel and on-the-go play. 

Painted in pastels with a cute purple apron, Sprinkles is ready to serve you tasty treats at her confectionery. The pony comes with a counter, a foldable sweet shop case, a cash register, a brush, and a velvety apron. There’s minimum assembly required. Folding up the playset is easy. Also, I do have to share that the counter I received had the word “Breyer” printed upside down.

There are other figures similar to Sprinkles called Li’l Beauties, including a miniature version of Stardust the unicorn.

Breyer 2021 Freedom Series Horse of the Year – Hope

While I didn’t receive Hope for review, the 2021 Freedom Series Horse of the Year, this collectible’s available for gift-giving, too. Breyer partnered with Covenant House, an organization fighting youth homelessness, to create such a piece. Take note; $1 of each Hope purchased goes to Covenant House. Farid write an entire article about this in May of this year.

So, if you’re into buying a gift that gives back to the community, Hope is available for $24.99.

In my opinion, all of the Breyer toy horses I have reviewed are excellent gifts for the horse or unicorn enthusiast in your life. Although they aren’t exactly models of the original Breyer horses I remember, they’re still fun toys. They’re perfectly made for small hands and a lot of fun.
