A Star-Studded Charity Soccer Game in Vancouver

Last Saturday, Vancouver Whitecaps FC hosted the club’s third annual Legends & Stars charity soccer match between two teams full of Whitecaps alumni and actors filming in Vancouver, BC.

Among this year’s participants were Vancouver-born actor Jacob Tremblay (Room, Good Boys), Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), Ross Lynch (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Jordan Connor, Martin Cummins, Drew Ray Tanner (Riverdale), Marie Avgeropoulos, Jarod Joseph, Sachin Shahel, Tasya Teles, Richard Harmon, Lee Majdoub (The 100), Alex Roe, Curtis Lum (Siren), Change Hurstfield, Lizzy Greene, Chandler Riggs (A Million Little Things), Dan Payne (Descendants), Adam Tsekhman (Legends of Tomorrow), Aria Birch (Pup Academy) and many more.

While the participants’ skills may not have been fully up to par with MLS level, the game was enjoyed by everyone on and off the pitch, all for a good cause: raising money for the BC’s Children Hospital. Jensen Ackles was in high spirits for the whole hour and brought a great atmosphere to the stadium.

At the end of the game, I caught up with him. He shared some of his thoughts about Supernatural ending this year:

“It’s gonna feel weird next year when I’m not here. Right now, I’m here, we’re in the middle of it. I’m just doing my job, still enjoying being a part of the show and a part of this city. It’s business as usual right now”.

I also met with Tasya Teles and Marie Avgeropoulos who talked about the game and gave us some insight about The 100’s seventh and final season.

On the Charity game
Marie: It’s a wonderful opportunity to represent all these wonderful charity groups in the Vancouver area and BC. Plus, it’s a great excuse for all of us to get together and play some good old sports and have fun!
Tasya: It’s a lot of fun to get everybody together. Last year, I think it was really great. We had such good showing from the show. It was awesome.

On The 100’s final season
Marie: It feels bittersweet. It’s been a great experience and opportunity to kick off a lot of our careers. I feel like we’ve all grown as people together and as actors. It’s going to be sad to say goodbye to these characters but it’s exciting to see what is on the horizon. Next season is completely different than all the others. The audience won’t believe what’s coming. There are new characters, new planets, new twists and turns.

On their next steps
Tasya: We are planning a vacation. (laughs)
Marie: I’m excited to be part of the Wonder Woman franchise. I am the voice of Silver Swan opposite Rosario Dawson. And I have an action movie coming out called Jui Jitsu with Nicholas Cage next year as well. So I’m excited about future endeavors.
Tasya: I’m excited for sleep movers (laughs) and enjoying your [Marie’s] success. I just wrapped a movie as well: Break Even, and it comes out next year. This will be fun. There are always things I’m working on.
