I’m all for hearing different queer perspectives and Ad Creeps looks ready to give me just that. Featuring two trans and non-binary hosts, Ad Creeps has Al Ross and Courtney “Dee” Twentee discussing gendered advertising. It will launch on January 19, 2021.

Ad Creeps has been described as an “informational comedy podcast” hosted by individuals “raised on cereal mascots and product jingles.” The upcoming queer-centric podcast will find the secret stories behind TV commercials “enshrined in the cultural conversation” and view said content through a lens that’s uncommon in current media.

The description reads:

Growing up lumped into an often harmful demographic has given Ad Creeps’ trans hosts, Al Ross & Courtney “Dee” Twentee, a unique point of view on gendered advertising. Their rowdy impressions of the way that they chafed against these expectations and found gender euphoria within TV commercials give a fresh and funny perspective on ad demographics. Al and Courtney address the present and past of advertising in a way that queer, trans, and millennial listeners will find relatable, hilarious, and thought-provoking, from toys that pee to the confusing array of 90’s fashion.

With such a vast amount of ways to exist as a non-binary person, advertisers couldn’t pander to us if they wanted to – and yes, that’s a challenge,” shared Al. “My experience is just one of many and we’d love to use this podcast as a way to have more conversations about gender in advertising that includes trans and non-binary folks.”

Each episode (released weekly) will be 30-minutes long and will allow listeners to enjoy “buck wild stories and anecdotes” about common advertisements. Every episode will see Al and Courtney tackle a different TV commercial and sharing their sharp and cultural and historical analysis.

I’d like to think of us as a way more gay ‘Under the Influence’,” said Courtney, “but replace Terry O’Quinn with two queer, non-binary friends who consumed far too much TV in their childhood.”

Here’s a sneak peek!

For those interested, you can subscribe to Ad Creeps right now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or any podcast app you prefer. You can follow the series on Twitter (@adcreeps) and Instagram (@adcreeps). The official website is adcreeps.gay. This new podcast is brought to you by the Major Casts Network.

While there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done when it comes to transgender and non-binary queer representation in TV shows and films, I have to admit that representation in the advertisement department doesn’t always come up in such discussions.

So, all the best to Ad Creeps pushing the needle forward.
