Yuri on Ice Movie Featuring Young Victor Will Premiere in 2019

Yuri on Ice Adolescence

It’s here! IT’S HERE! The Yuri on Ice movie news we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived! Yuri on Ice: Ice Adolescence will premiere in 2019!

News first broke about a Yuri on Ice movie last year at the stage event (remember Chihoko?), and fans have been impatiently waiting for more news ever since. The staff had been teasing a major announcement for days, and just a couple of days ago revealed that the big announcement had to do with the highly-anticipated film.

Today, after the Yuri on Ice concert event – which was livestreamed worldwide – we at last have the news we’ve been so desperate for. Yuri on Ice: Ice Adolescence (Yuri!!! on Ice Gekijō-ban Ice Adolescence) is coming in 2019! (We still have no idea when in 2019, but having a year is better than having no date at all.)

From the video announcement, it seems that Yuri on Ice: Ice Adolescence will focus on a young Victor Nikiforov, since the beginning of the anime series focused on Yuuri. Only Victor is featured in the video, and Junichi Suwabe (voice of Victor) says the movie’s title. The video teaser is nothing more than a pan down the movie’s key visual, but nonetheless has sent fans into a tizzy because can you believe we’re going to see young!Victor I AM SO EXCITED.

Much of the staff that produced the series will be returning for the movie. Mitsurou Kubo wrote the screenplay, with Tadashi Hiramatsu doing the character design. Sayo Yamamoto will direct. Co-composers Taro Umebayashi and Taku Matsushiba are back, with Keisuke Tominaga as music producer.

In other news, Matsushiba said that the staff hopes to be able to bring the concert overseas!

Well, this movie news has surely made my day! An entire movie about young Victor growing up lonely in Russia? Makkachin as a puppy? I can’t wait!
