‘Angela: Queen of Hel’ Cancelled by Marvel! Series to End Next Month!

Angela and Sera in Angela: Queen of Hel 7

All-New, All-Different Marvel is saying good-bye to Angela: Queen of Hel and Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D, with more titles possibly on the chopping block in the coming months.

According to Comic Book Resources, Marvel has cancelled Angela: Queen of Hel and the Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D in announcements made in the titles’ respective issues released this month. The creative team behind the Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D wrote thank you notes to the fans and the rest of the staff in Issue #6 of the series.

Angela and Sera in Angela Queen of Hel 6Angela: Queen of Hel also told readers that it was coming to an end by taking a fun meta approach. Issue #6 was described as the penultimate chapter with the upcoming Issue #7 concluding the title next month. While I haven’t read Angela: Queen of Hel, I have been keeping up with the events of the story. The solo series currently shows Angela in a romantic relationship with a trans female character. Also, the creative team behind the title seem to want to go out with a bang because Issue #6 (which I have read) had Angela confront the female Thor. The concluding chapter is all set to deliver fans a God-level battle.

The All-New, All-Different Marvel launch occurred after the major Secret Wars event and released numerous female driven titles. However, sales haven’t fared well for most of them and Angela: Queen of Hel seems to be the first one to be let go.

Other female-centric titles after Secret Wars include Scarlet Witch, Spider-Woman, Patsy Walker Aka Hellcat, A-Force and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. According to February sales Scarlet Witch fell to another series low with only 23,899 issues sold, and Spider-Woman came in second with 20,747 issues sold. The rest fell below the 20,000 mark except A-Force.

If the above numbers are any indication we might see another title be canceled by Marvel soon enough. A-Force seems to be safe right now with 35,571 issues sold. It also has G. Willow Wilson of Ms. Marvel fame writing it. So, if you haven’t checked it out yet, go and buy yourself a copy!
