New “Charlie’s Angels” Trying Hard to Gain Queer Viewers with RuPaul’s Drag Race Ad

I’m not really sure who decided that using the queer community to such a degree in an advertisement would be a good idea. I guess trying to get queer viewers to fill up theater seats is important for the new Charlie’s Angels movie. Frankly, it needs to fill as many seats as it can because box office predictions aren’t great.

It’s obvious that no one is really excited about watching the upcoming Charlie’s Angels film. Judging from the trailers, there’s just so much that isn’t working for it. In my opinion, it comes across as a straight-to Netflix film and not even the good kind.

Heck! Even the official theme song by powerhouses Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Lana Del Rey couldn’t make an impact.

No one cares.

Also, I have a lot of questions. Are men allowed to be field agents and be called Angels? Are women supposed to be a certain body type to be considered an Angel? Can someone trans be an Angel?

I ask the last question because Sony decided to make an advertisement featuring a crossover with well-known queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race for some reason.

Check it out!

I don’t know about you, but unless the actual Charlie’s Angels movie features obvious queer representation, including trans representation (because of having Peppermint in the ad), the short film shared above reeks of Hollywood exploiting the queer community for some attention and box office returns.

I have nothing against the Queens in this ad. They can make some coin whenever they get the opportunity. I’m just rolling my eyes at the promotional team for the upcoming movie. It’s just desperate.

Charlie’s Angels will be released in the U.S. on Friday, November 15, 2019. It has a reported production budget of $48 million. So, maybe, just maybe, it will be able to make that back? We’ll find out soon enough.

Until then, I hope we get some actual queer representation, especially after creating such an ad, because if not, I will definitely not be checking out this film at all because of blatant queer exploitation.

Sigh!
