Apple TV’s Horror-Comedy “Widow’s Bay” Sweeps Emmy Awards 2026!

In a turn of events that made me very happy, the highly enjoyable Widow’s Bay managed to sweep during the Emmys 2026 ceremony last Monday. With season two already confirmed, I hope the audience for this particular series continues to grow, especially after it made such a splash in the award circuit.
While I wasn’t 100% on board with watching and reviewing Widow’s Bay when I saw the trailer, I’m so glad that I checked out the two-episode season premiere on April 29, 2026. The show got me hooked quite quickly. And I just had to talk about it through my episodic reviews, which you can read here.
Starring Matthew Rhys as Tom Loftis, the premise of Widow’s Bay involves the mayor, Tom, trying to make the island of Widow’s Bay the next tourist attraction to help boost finances and basically bring the small island town into the modern world. However, there’s a slight catch. While Tom’s hesitant to believe the local folklore about Widow’s Bay being haunted at first, he has no choice but to accept the fact that something dark was indeed at play, and that something wasn’t a fan of all the tourists showing up.
Created by Katie Dippold, Widow’s Bay strikes an enjoyable balance of horror, comedy, and “WTF?” moments. It’s not a grand show. But it’s a show with a whole lot of heart and an interesting/quirky set of characters. Along with Rhys, the cast also includes Kate O’Flynn as Patricia Moyer (one of the best horror comedy female characters ever!), Kevin Carroll as Sheriff Bechir Clemmons, Stephen Root as Wyck Crawford, and more.
The first season is only 10 episodes long. And while it concludes on a cliffhanger, season 2 has been greenlit. So, yeah, if you weren’t aware of Widow’s Bay before the Emmys sweep or had been contemplating watching it, I implore you to get on it!
As for the wins, Widow’s Bay made Emmy history as the horror-comedy managed to win 14 awards across the 19 categories it was nominated in.
The series won: Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Rhys), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Root), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (O’Flynn), Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series (Hiro Murai), and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (Dippold), to name a few.
