“Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender” Gets Blu-ray and DVD Release This November!

Fans of the animated Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender feature-length movie can look forward to owning the recent addition to the ATLA IP on DVD and Blu-ray come November 3, 2026. Take note that a 4K UHD Steelbook release will follow on February 9, 2027.

Even though it was unfortunate that the Avatar: The Last Airbender fandom couldn’t enjoy watching Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender on the big screen with an actual theatrical run due to it premiering on Paramount+ on July 25, 2026, at least they can get excited about owning the action-fantasy animated film on physical media very soon.

While I’m a bit bummed out about the upcoming physical release not featuring any bonus material or some kind of tangible collectible, I’m still glad about Paramount and Alliance Home Entertainment opting to make Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender available for physical media preservation, considering the push to digital-only content across Hollywood and video games, doing away with the concept of actually being able to “own” such content.

Now, let’s talk about the movie itself!

Directed by Lauren Montgomery from a screenplay by Tim Hedrick and Christopher Yost, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender picks up about 13 years after the end of the Hundred Year War. Aang and his friends are busy establishing Republic City as a way for all Four Nations to co-exist together. Aang’s also been spending time preserving as much of the Air Nomand culture as possible.

Trouble brews when the Denied show up on a mission to find an ancient relic linked to Avatar Sonam. The ancient staff, according to lore, gave Avatar Sonam the power to grant bending to a non-bender. The Denied feel that non-benders experience unfair treatment compared to Benders and want to turn things around. Aang’s curiosity about the relic leads him to a location where he ends up finding Tagah, an airbender trapped inside ice, similar to kid Aang after he ran away from his Air Tribe.

From there, the narrative follows Tagah, Aang, and his friends on a journey to find Avatar Sonam’s legendary staff before it falls into the hands of the Denied. A whole lot of twists occur, with Aang being forced to not only address his childhood guilt but also make a choice about wanting to hold onto the past and wanting to create a brighter future for everyone.

I enjoyed the action sequences, even though I felt that the group of villains switched from fodder to legit threats upon plot convenience instead of actual narrative sense.

Also, the scene where Katara splits a portion of the ocean in half to give more time to Toph, Zuko, and Sokka? YESSS!!!

It’s not the most well-written animated movie, but I still found it quite enjoyable. And I have my fingers crossed we get to see the adult versions of Aang and his friends again soon.

As for the immediate future of the ATLA IP, new animated series Avatar: Seven Havens is set to premiere come October 9, 2026, on the Paramount+ streaming service. The premise follows a young Earthbender named Pavi who discovers she’s the next Avatar after Avatar Korra. Living in a post-apocalyptic world, Pavi teams up with her twin sister Nisha to save the Seven Havens.
