Screenwave Media and developer, Freak Zone Games, have launched the “fan-favorite” pixel shooter, The Angry Video Game Nerd (or AVGN) I & II Deluxe Edition on PC and the Nintendo Switch!

The remastered collection brings players every stage featured in the action platform titles AVGN 1 (2013) and AVGN 2 (2016). Fans will also get to enjoy an “all-new never-before-seen final chapter” if they decide to pick up the Deluxe Edition.

For those who might not be familiar, Angry Video Game Nerd is the name of a retro gaming review comedy web series created by and starring James Rolfe. AVGN is about Rolfe’s character “The Nerd”. He can be described as a short-tempered and foul-mouthed gamer who likes to offer commentary on retro games.

Having begun in 2004 (from what I could find out), Rolfe’s videos are considered to have influenced numerous game reviewers over the years.

You might have seen some AVGN videos popping up on YouTube. If you’re into gaming culture, I think you should consider watching Rolfe’s videos if you haven’t already. I do enjoy Rolfe’s content.

Here’s the trailer for the AVGN I & II Deluxe Edition release!

The Key Features include:

  • Enhanced Visuals – Getting to experience the 8-bit awesomeness in a whole new way.
  • Improved Level Design and Difficulty Options – Both games are infamously hard-as-nails, but Normal and Easy difficulties come with infinite lives, so take as many attempts as you need to beat the challenge.
  • Quality of Life Improvements – Faster respawning when you die (which will be often) has never been more appealing. There’s also multiple save slots and accessibility options.
  • Surprises – Perhaps you’ve never played either of these games, perhaps you’re new to the sequel, or maybe you have spent years achieving the world speedrun record for both, but whatever your experience with the series, there are plenty of surprises in store for you!
  • New Chapter, Completing The Story – “Wait, the game had a story?” Yes, kinda, and now there’s more of it! Beat both games to unlock the epic finale.

AVGN I & II Deluxe Edition is currently available on PC (Steam) and the Nintendo Switch for $14.99.
